Well, I've been having trouble doing much with the campus dermestarium lately because its the summer (so I'm not on campus much) and they are doing construction (so the stuff I need is on 2 different floors and behind locked doors I don't have keys to). So, to try and at least get SOME stuff done during the rest of the summer, I've made a mini dermestarium for home use. I can do some smaller and more delicate specimens using this. I also did this because I owe LifelessForm a flying gecko...
Now I will actually be able to get that done! I'm also planning on running some small birds and other critters through it.
The micro-dermestarium. Just a 1 gallon critter keeper. They said it would be 'great for small animals like goldfish'
I just scooped out some beetles, larvae and frass from the larger tank and chucked it in. The cup in the center holds the specimens.
An inside view. The kuhli can be seen in the upperish left.
A closeup on the kuhli. He has only been in for an hour, but they have already defleshed the tail and head. Hopefully they won't eat the bones, but its hard to tell. Fish have very soft bones, especially small or young ones (and this one is both).
