Hey guys just wanted to start a thread on seeing what everyone thinks about having a mirror on the back of a tank. Do you guys think it's strictly cosmetic or does it serve a function?
I have mirrors on the back of both my tanks, and i think it makes them look so much better, and way better then a printed backdrop. Post Away! :headbang2:

any pics, i have seen those backrounds, but i think they look weirdish, any pics on ur tank, maybe they look better there

i prefer a black backround, as it doesn't reflect back light, it absorbs heat(sort of, keeping the tank maybe 0.25F warmer?), and blends the wires in, so invisible, wouldn't a mirror just reflect the wires/heaters back at you kind of

anyways, i hardly see the back in some of my tanks as they are heaivly planted

and mirrors might scare my fish, my angels attack themselves when i haev a lamp on against the tank, they try hitting the glass;)

Maybe certain fish don't do good with mirrors but i have not seen any odd behavior from my fish. Yes it reflects the heater and stuff inside the tank but it covers up the wires. My father is able to to get and cut composite glass at his work, so it's flexible and won't shatter.

All of my tanks have solid black backgrounds and it creates a mirror effect. I am with the rest don't like the mirror, sorry.

No apology needed PlecoLuvr. It's all personal preference; i'm just curious as to what everyone thinks about a mirror or black or none. Thank you FireDancer for the compliment.

Lmao so please explain how the black paint on the outside of an aquarium holds heat and makes the tank a quarter of a degree warmer? Any proof/tests you done to back up this claim?

I prefer a black background, but I can see a mirror back having it's place in certain tanks. It would be nice to see what's going on in the back of the tanks occasionally lol.

i think in a very well planted tank it would make a more dense loooking tank and make it seems liike the plants went on and on, but i bet the fish would hit the glass alot
