Moon Lighting for aquariums

Having looked at the lights available thru "thelebos" I have to say I'm liking them better, however I'm struggling with how to install them in my current set up.

My standard 55gal currently has two separate light hoods each containing an 18" 15 watt bulb. There's enough room to place a 2 moon light box's in each existing hood, but they'd have to be pushed to the very ends, which would mean only using 4 as well as the fact they'd be spaced oddly (1 on each end of the tank, and two close to the center line....lame). Any ideas?

I wonder if the light boxes are waterproof enough to be placed underneath the tank cover, which would allow me to space them more evenly, but would mean they'd get splashed...

Anyone else tried to tackle this?

Thanks!

My tank is set up the same way with the lights and like i said its alittle bit hard to see. So im going to have to find a way to add one light in between the lights to fix it.

As far as water proofing goes i would say those boxes arent waterproof(email the guy to find out for sure). But creating a waterproof contraption shouldnt be extremely difficult, i would suspect it would just need a small piece of plastic and alot of silicone.

But do you have any space whatsoever between your light fixture and the piece that light attaches to? Im going to experiment with fixing mine and i could email you pictures if yours is light fixture the same as mine.

I used 9 led lights for my 60 gal. It may seem like to much but when I put the light more in the from of the tank most the light shines down on my sandbed and keeps my rock area nice and dark still. I t make a very good ripple effect on my sandbed and cas very nice shadows when my fish swim across. If I can get some pretty good pics od it tonight I will post them tomorrow.

Here are the moonlight pics. 9 led lights this was a half DIY projectm, had to fund a way to mount the strip of led lights. Sorry for the blur.

Cool Pics!

All right, I found a way around the stock light hood system I've got as far as setting up a string of moon lights. I bought 2ea 24" "Versa-top" hinged glass covers which fit nice and flush along the top of my 55 gal (14 bucks ea. at my lfs).

Now I can set up a 1 piece 48" light hood (which gives me the higher wattage I was looking for, over the 2 separate 15w stock hoods) and I can line the moon lights either in front or behind the 48" hood (or inside the hood, if I rig it right!).

Thats exactly what i was thinking to do, please take pics when your done if you can. Im curious to see how this turns out for you.

Could anybody answer my earlier questions?

My new blue moon T8 bulb seems to be very bright, and the fish continue swimming around not resting? is there a way to lower the brightness??

would it be ok to run the moon bulb along side the main daylight bulbs? it gives the tank a great colour and the neon rainbows look great under it.
Or should i just run it in the morn and night before/after main lights.

Bluemoon + other bulbs
Bluemoon alone

these have been taken in daylight so looks brighter?

Cheers shekoi
i'll take some at night so can see if moon blub is to bright.

Decided too bright

yes the moon light is too bright for my 40g, so i'm going to use it along side my main blubs and i've ordered some LED's they should be here either tomorrow or Monday, so looking forward to seting them up. the kit contains 4 or 5 LEDs i think, it's says that enough for a 4ft.

it cost £11 with postage
good?? :)

the ones i linked to are £30 each and only have 1 LED! ok so it's a comercial product but still!
where did you get yours from??
I think you got yourself a bargain!
