Moss Arch

1. Aluminum staples are easier to use than the needle and thread.
2. I use aluminum wire in the Plastic mesh to help it retain shape and sink. This way you can make all sorts of shapes

Aluminum as in the staples preeth used. If someone could be so kind I'd also like the metals safe/unsafe for inverts issue clarified. I know copper is a slow killer but what about the lead in the weights people use to anchor plants and veggies?

edit: actually this question would probably better placed in the inverts forum.

When I was at the craft store, they had 100% aluminum mesh, which I thought would be awesome, both for weight and because I could form it to the decorations I'm trying to get the moss to cover (wierd shapes and angle, hard to tie down). But...I also didn't know whether it was aquarium safe or not. I haven't been able to find anything other than one article claiming it's NOT safe for saltwater because the salt causes electrolisis and it breaks down, entering the waer column as aluminum oxide. This is an area of aquarium keeping that is seriously under-researched!

agreed, but that's kind of the appeal to me. It's all so new, especially with inverts like dwarf shrimp. On the other hand, it would be nice to know what's safe instead of what's not safe...

"what's 2+2?"
"not 15" :shakehead:

Love the arch idea. So much you can do with mesh. You could even do a cone shaped one for caves with 1 opening.

You could make different sizes and shapes and also position them in different directions to add depth and character to the tank.

You could even make a mountain and put small caves in the sides using the cone shapes.

Now that's what I'm talkin about :)
