Yeah my cousin's father has been keeping fish for some 30 years and never had an oscar in their aquarium. Even my cousin never had an oscar. Come to think of it not many people know what oscars are. When I started the hobby I was mostly attraced to Arowanas and Oscars. But these fish need big aquariums and not every one like to see fighting fish in their aquarium. Many people get aquariums to see fish swimming peacefully. And most like to relax seeing fish. And when you say oscars you can only see troubles of the world (fish hitting fish, fish injuring fish). My little 2 inch oscar had shreaded the fins of my 7 inch long Pangasius Catfishs and it usually keep hitting my 15 inch Giant Gourami in the belly (Giant G is not even bothered by all the hitting). He has eaten all the cull fry of mollies I gave him to eat. If it was anyother fish like cichild or Pacu I would have exchanged it for Gold Fishes at lfs by now. But its an oscar so I guess I will be keeping it. Favourites are favourites. Pesky little monster.

I will collect oscars when I get more 55 gallon aquariums. Just like to know can I put an oscar in a heavily planted aquarium. All the oscars I had died during power outages so I got Giant Gouramis. Atleast GG can breath air so now no expensive big fish dead for me. Can the planted aquarium provide oxygen for the oscar during 2 hour long power outs. How long can plants provide air during power outs. Dont answer this here I have started a new thread for it. Look for
