Moving from 5 Gallon to 10 Gallon

I just bought a 20 gallon (instead of a 10) so it looks like this is happening!

Tricky part is the new tank needs to go where the current tank is.

I will try to slide current tank/stand out of the way, set up new tank, get water temperature all good to go and then I’ll transfer the occupants and hope for the best. I will leave this tank as-is for a week or so before adding any new tank mates.

I purchased some filter media bags that I will fill with existing substrate and existing filter cartridges. Can I lay them in the new tank in the corner if there is no room in the new filter box?

Yes, but hanging them so they have flow on them would be even better....

I was thinking about a sudden drop in nitrates. But I agree with you

I actually might be able to take the whole HOB filter and put it on the new tank (in addition to the new filter) for a few weeks. That could work, right?

Yeah that would work. What type of filter is it. Brand and model?

I really like Aquaclear.

One is a Marina that cane with the 5 gallon and the other is a Aqueon that came with the 20 gallon.

I was able to add some old filter media to the new filter, but could not fit the old cartridge so I put it in a filter bag and hung it off the new filter so it’s close to the water movement. Do you think this will help?

Yes that will work. All you need is water movement over the BB.

It's my understanding that ghost shrimp can only breed in salt/brackish water. .

this is true with Amano shrimp, but i dont think this is true with ghost shrimp. its their ability to breed so easily in freshwater that unfortunately makes them, to some people, a "feeder shrimp"
