You could try a fan filter shrimp (green lace) or amanos in with the betta. Both get decent sized but are low bioload and don't reproduce in freshwater.
 
There isnt alot of flow in this tank so would the fan filters still work? I had some Bamboo shrimp in my 55 community and they liked to get in an area with alot of flow to filter for food. How many Amanos would be good for a tank this size? Sorry about all the questions but i dont want to get something that i cant properly take care of.
 
Just got some shrimp and amecas yesterday and they are awesome!!
 
Do you breed the Thai Micro Crabs? What water parameters do you keep them?
I'm interested on them, but I want to me sure I have the right tank for them.

They are just hitting maturity now. They are supposed to complete their full life cycle in freshwater though I haven't read reports of raising the larvae.

I keep them in two tanks with different params but have not noticed any difference as of yet in their behavior/growth.

tank 1 is ph 7, temp 76

tank 2 is ph 7.8, temp 74
 
I've got some questions about the hasbrosus. How big do they get? Will they get along with GBRs and Cardinals/Neons. Are they known to be sensitive to water params? I ask because there doesn't seem to be much info on the internet.
