MSNBC seems to care less

Back to the dikes issue...

You guys dont understand that Mr. Bush does not have all-power. This is not a dictatorship government where one person controls all. So please stop referring to Mr. Bush like he is the sole guy responsible for getting them fixed.

The State and City governments are largely responsible for getting the levees fixed. Although they may not supply to money for it, they play a LARGE role in actually getting them out there to fix it.

I dont mean to sound offensive, but nursie... Alot of what you said has already been said. Go back and check my first post on this thread. That supplies basic information on why aid cannot be gotten so quickly, about the dikes, and etc.

Although the fault is not on NO 100% for taking care of all this mess, it is largely on them. A friend of mine works in Law Enforcement. He supplied me with alot of information. Like said, NO government is substandard. They did not learn from other cities faults, and apply standards like they should have. Maybe getting their own city slammed by a hurricane might teach them to apply these standards.

thank you zacdl! I can't say it as nice as you!:D:D oh..you live in OK! I used to live in OK!:D

no..I'm not in the military..I married a Norwegian guy who lives in Norway. That's how I got over here. It probably seems like to other poeple that I am in the military because i've lived in 7 states, 11 towns, and 16 houses!:D oh and plus 2 countries..America and Norway.

Responsibility for things within the State are predominantly the States responsibility. When the levies were originally built they were built to hold up for a categorie 3 hurricane. That was a financial decision that the state made (once again hindsight always show the obvious).

As far as response, I do not think anyone ever pictured an entire city of 500,000 people being destroyed as well as multiple other cities in Mississippi and Alabama. To decide where to send people and to decide who gets what help must be a logistical nightmare. I feel the federal government has done as good as it can for the scope of damage. The only place I feel they may have failed was getting the military in to control looting. Just because someone dislikes Bush I do not think they should be attacking him for this. I do think we have learned though that all of this practice we have been doing incase of some sort of terrorist stike needs to be beefed up to a larger scale.

I feel for the people suffering at this time. My church helped feed over 300 families on Friday from NO and plan on doing it every Friday. We are also sending volunteers to help at the Astrodome and surrounding shelters.

It is not the Governments responsibility to control looting. Again, if the city government would have learned from previous cities' mistakes, they could have handled this much better, with the government assisting.

If you read my post I said that the government relies on the city government to have plans in place. The government, and all other aid for that matter, is an aid to the city government. A large aid.

I am a Baptist, and the Southern Baptist Convention takes care of 80% of all the meals and such that the American Red Cross serves. This is quite a bunch!

The Air Force Base here in town was told to be ready for 200 military families.

Some real estate companies here in town are even putting up homes for families, and going to train whoever gets a home to do a job.

There is plenty of aid and assistance, the best that can be gotten.

A member from our church had a mother that lived in the "epicenter" of the hurricane, and asked our pastor if he would go help look for her. I think most people know that there is a strict no-fly zone above all this, and that only military and news crews can fly over. Our pastor got permission to fly in this area. They flew a plane and landed at the airport there at the epicenter (I have forgotten the towns name, it is in Mississippi though). That airport so happens to be the central-command of the operations there.
He proceeded to a building that had close to 600 troops in it, and asked a Private if he could have the National Guard carry them into the city (Since they flew they didn't have a car). He went up the ranks until he came to the 3 star general that was in charge. First remark the general was "How the BEEP did you get in here?". Our pastor responded they had secured permission to fly in. The general gave them 2 trucks and 10 troops, and they headed into the city. His mother was OK. But here is some of what it is like down there, getting rid of some of the myths that are going around the internet. The people are hindering aid. They shoot at vehicles trying to deliver supplies, making it very hard to deliver supplies. They shoot each other, they kill each other, its just total chaos. There are signs up such as "We shoot looters".

After him describing all this and showing pictures, I realized that this was similar to another part of the world. Iraq.

norwayfishies..you are only baptist cause you married me! and THEN you became one...I am the real baptist!...lol:D
