mums are for the flowerbed

I am an American, and I can make fun of 'em too!

Pop is the noise a balloon makes when you poke it with a needle, Soda is what you drink!

You can't "sweep" with a Vacuum, you can only sweep with a broom!

Sucker is either a) a person who is easily cheated, b) the word before "punch", c) a person or thing that sucks or d) a type of fish....its not something that YOU suck.

- Signed a New Englander living in Ohio. :p

Oh, and I have always wondered about this...

I've been told that:
As an American,
- What we call "Jello" or "Gelatin" the British call "Jelly"
- What we call "Jelly" the British call "Jam"
- So what on earth do the British call "Jam"????

Another one from a New Englander....

This is a Water Bubbler:

lol thats not a new england think...i think its a rhode island/jersey thing. Everyone else around here calls it a water fountain. the second one is just a fountain. Agreed on the pop business though.

I'm from Massachusetts, and I think it may be the same further north. Maybe it's a everyone but Conn. kind of thing? :p

Edit: According to Wikipedia (so may not be entirely true): "The term is still used in several regional dialects of the United States, originating in eastern Wisconsin. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan, states in New England, and Australia also use the term. Oregon is also known to be quite familiar with the term, specifically in the Portland region where in the late 1800s Simon Benson installed 20 fountains which are now known in the Portland area as "Benson Bubblers"."

The UP, Wisconsin....sounds like it'd be a Northern New England thing. :)
