Murder In My Tank!!

Do you have items in the tank that you can rearrange? I had a similar problem at one point with tetras. I moved everything around (not drastically but enough to eliminate territories). Even adding 1 thing to the tank might help. If there is a battle over that spot you could eliminate it. Have you bought any new fish lately?

The frogs would certainly eat a fish if they found it dead (or dying). And the frog might be inclined to pull the corpse to his or her favorite spot before starting dinner.

I used to have a dwarf frog in a tank with two fairly large fantail goldfish. I didn't twig on to the fact that the frog was not getting enough food until I saw him lunge at the relatively HUGE fish, grab it's tail and get towed across the tank. (The frog was moved to a smaller tank so he could get a little more attention paid to his diet:D
 
The problem could be smaller (or bigger) than another fish. If your conditions check out I would check for signs of parasites. None of your fish seem to me to be aggresive enough to kill a rainbow. It may have died, or started to and then been pciked apart by the other fish. As for the placement of the dead fish I would be willing to bet that that is where the in-tank current "dead ends" You see this a lot working in a fish store.

I agree completely.

You haven't posted your water condtions, have you checked them? (Temp, ammonia and nitrite mainly). Any new additions? New plants?
 
Well I was right, today one of the Golden Guarimis were split open floating around at the top of the water.

Temp is at 76. Water tested and everything is fine, I take it once a week to a LFS. I had the water tested again yesterday.

I added a few live plants within the month, thats about all i did.

Maybe i should be feeding them more. I only feed once everyother day and they eat it up in 1 min.

It most likely just died and was eaten after it died. I would check your water quality.

you have a somewhat overstocked tank as it is, how long has it been up for?

Test it yourself, getting someone else to test it for you is not the best way. If something is killing your fish it's a good bet there is something wrong with your water.
 
I'm inclined to agree with the others. It's probably just where the current takes the corpse. Naturally the other fish will munch on it after it is dead. The real question remains though, what is killing them? I agree with cdawson, test the water yourself. Something is amiss.

I'd deffinitely be concerned about feeding them more often. Once every other day is not enough to provide the proper nutrition for all those fish; all of which are fairly active fish. It sounds like those starving fish have resorted to canabalism. I would recommend increasing their feedings to at least twice a day. If you don't want to feed more often because you don't like doing water changes, hey, it comes with the hobby!:D
