Murder In My Tank!!

I'd also be concerned about the feeding habits. Once every other day isn't going to provide the proper nutrition all those fish need. I wouldn't be suprised your fish are being murdered; they're all starving so they could've resorted to canabalism. Try feeding at least 2 times a day, if you're not feeding more often because you don't like performing water changes, hey, it comes with the hobby!

This is highly unlikely. Fish have slow metabolisms, once every other day should be fine. If anything, I would boost the ammount of time it takes them to consume the food to two minutes, but again, fish don't need to be feed 2 times a day or even once a day. Goldfish, for instance, need to be fasted(sp) for a few days.

LFS's sometimes are really laxed about cleaning out their test tubes which throws the reading way off. For example, if I don't completely and thoroughly clean out a test tube that I have used to test ammonia, then my pH is read completely off, (like 8.6 compared to the 7.4 it really is).

This may sound dumb but...I always test my water before I take it to the LFS. I have more than once told them "but I got...when I just tested my water at home" They get a little irritated with me but then they retest and usually find out I am right. I am very serious about not adding a lot of junk to my water and I don't want to put fish in a tank when the water isn't right. I kinda use them as a double check to my water testing. I know my test tubes are clean. I also use quick dips alot and only pull the full test kit out once in a while or if something doesn't seem quite right. Hey, I got an A in chemistry but I don't have a lot of time for it now. HTH Letty

OK, i found the killer.

It is my australian rainbow. Today i shut the lights and watched.
It was so wierd, the rainbow turned really mean looking once the lights went out. It front half of the body went almost black and became really agressive towards all fish.

I actually watched him case the last congo tetra and beat it up so bad that it was floating upside down on the rocks. The rainbow then went after my silver dollars but they dont take his crap and gave it right back to him.

What should I do. Should I take him out? Any ideas or thoughts.
thanks

take him out put him in his own tank or a tank with other baddies. I always wondered about stuff like that with fish.
