Thanks guys, your comments are great motivation! I've been thinking african cichlids for sure: lots of color and activity and personality... and I can probably house a dozen or so 4-6" africans with a decent sized pleco and maybe a snail. That's a great link, I'll have some readong to get me through my work day tomorrow! ;)

BTW, sorry for the slow progress this last week, I've been going hard and heavy on the background for this tank, as a lot of it had to be done before the glass gets installed. I'm almost done with the parts that needed doing before the glass arrived, so I can return to finishing the tank soon. I need to finish up the sump, and actually put dividers and media, and pumps in it, then start drawing up the plumbing.

Background thread is here: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113166

Dude... Your progress is anything but slow. You're putting in a goodly amount of time. Your making a tank I think anyone would love to have.

Go easy on yourself.

??fish selection suggestion(try saying that 5 times fast)??

:eek:Holy crap:eek: Dude this is a great DIY project man!!! Just a suggestion, since you wanted a fish w/ personality, maybe you should look in to finding a Giant Gourami. I have read about people who have them saying that they when they enter the room, the gourami will come up to the side of the tank and try to interact w/ you. Forgot what size tank they need, but I am sure yours would be plenty big. However, chichilids would be a good choice, and would still look excellent, just making a suggestion. Keep up the good work, Tyler

Giant Gourami's hmm. I have been on the fnece between one big showcase fish like a black shark or a stingray or something VS. a bunch of smaller, colorful fish.

Gourami's are cool, but after 12" man they start to look oooooogly. I wanted oscars, too, cuz I've had them before and loved them, but once they get large they lose some color and look pretty rough around the edges.

You may have mentioned this before, but what kind of epoxy are you using? and what is the viscosity like on it? I need one that is very thin, almost like water, for something I do here at work. Currently I used one that is almost $400 per gallon, because it's the only one thin enough to penetrate into the parts we're making.. Something cheaper would be GREAT..

This stuff is pretty thick. What are you doing with it? vacuum infusion?

check out westsystem.com and indform.com for TONS of info about epoxy. The stuff I'm using is the industrial formulators' "cold cure", and it goes for around $250CAD for a 6 liter kit (I got it free tho). I know west system has a "slow cure" epoxy that cures exceptionally slowly. You could potentially use that system, and warm it up until it's as thin as you want. Because it's such a slow curing formula, it should remain workable for long enough, even though it's hot.

Also check out racingcomposites.net for a bunch of DIY and professional discussions about epoxy. I'm sure someone there can provide more information.
