My 185gal build in progress (lots of pics)

lol after a couple water changes and gravel vacs the water will be super clear. try adding some polyfill in the filter to help polish the water. looks great.

I realised today that I bought 4 filter bags, 2 100 micron and 2 50's... so I switched out to the 50s about an hour ago. The tank is looking much clearer (far cry from perfect yet). Tomorrow I'll do another 75-100gal water change and see what happens.

Funny thing about that stup[id goldfish though... I bought soem goldfish pellets today, instead of the flakes and bloodworms he's used to. He's too lazy to chew the pellets. He ate the first 3-4 I gave him, but after that, he grabs them ans spits them out immediately. Because I put a screen on the overflow for this tank, the 1-2 pellets that are left have stuck to the screen. He spends his whole time sitting by the overflow, sucking pellets off the screen and then spitting them back. Oh well, at least I'm reasonably sure he's not stressed out if he's looking for something to eat.

I guess I can be reasonably sure the water is clearing up, cuz I can see the 2" fish no matter where he is now... before I was losing sight of him for several minutes at a time.

Now that is a never before seen item for me! Float the tank in the new tank!

and i bet this morning it looks EXCELLENT, doesn't it? ;)

Weeeeeeeeeeeeellll... 50 micron might not be small enough :p. I'll order some on monday that are 5 micron and 25 micron.

What filter size usually gets used for polishing water?

A HOT Magnum w/ micron cartridge would clear it right up.

Yeah I saw a couple micron filters at big als yesterday... but waiting till mondya and just buying the 1-10 micron filter bags from mcmaster will only cost me like $10 ;)

i totally agree, i have two of these as well as a magnum 350 canister and i absolutely love them. I will never use another canister. 8)

I love mine, too. They are very good at creating water circulation in tank, as well. I use mine mainly as a biofilter these days but if I need to break out the micron cartridge for some reason, I won't hesitate to do so. :)

For circulation I plan on using the koralia pumps. The tank has cleared up a bit more with another water change... I ordered a set of 5 micron bags today, too.

While at the LFS, I couldnt' resist an impulse buy :( I'm already a bad fish owner! I'm not sure he's what they siad he was, but he was labeled as an atabapo plec. So far he seems confortable, but he hasn't eaten anything yet:

I read they aren't very outgoing or active fish, but that's OK with me, he'll have lots of hiding spots, and when I see him it will be a treat! ;) He hasn't made any effort to hide in the beer glass cave in the tank... but maybe he just hasn't found it yet. We'll see if he eats anything when the lights are out tonight.

The goldfish doesn't know quite what to do about the plec... he wants to go check him out, but he gets about 4" away and changes his mind. :p
