My 185gal build in progress (lots of pics)

Silly pleco. He's good at hiding. yesterday I was panicked, I thought he'd found a way into the return flow pipe from the filter or something because he was GONE. Then he showed up when I was doing a water change.

Has yet to eat anything though, which worried me a bit. I tried cucumber and zuccini last night, along with some hikari algae wafers, and nothing is touched today.

I've got some snails coming tomorrow to add to the tank, and then that's about it for a while I think. I'll let the trumpet snails colonize the gravel a bit and get established, and then pring in a loach or two to keep them in check.

So is the sarasa just for cycling or do you plan to keep goldfish in this aqarium?

I just put him in there because I couldn't resist :p he's so small in that big tank it was an entertaining proposition. I put him in with the entire contents of his 5gal tank, so there is a small amount of seeding going on as well. I don't know how much that little bit of media will actually speed things along, but it can't hurt. He was in a 5gal for the time being, but he needs a larger home, so we'll see if I can persuade the old lady to let me set up a 30 or something, and then the kids can get a couple of goldfish to put in there.

Awesome tank, but im sorry to say so that you can put a couple goldfish in a 30g tank. Goldfish are the messiest fish around and really shouldnt be kept in such small tanks. I would just keep him in your main tank.

well right now the goldie is getting beat up by the pleco, which I didn't think would happen. I might not have much choice, although he is growing very rapidly.

Stupid goldfish! my step daughter bought him in a bowl a few months ago... I finally had enough of watching the poor thing live in there and got him a 5g as a temp house. Messy or not, 30g would be better than returning him to the pet store, and much better than 5.

if you are still having problems with your pleco eating, make sure you are blanching your vegtables in the tank (steaming or boiling). It makes it much easier for its mouth to take pieces off as well as digest. 8)

Tank looks amazing, good to see it has all worked out so far.

Picked up a pleco for $20 today... someone brought him into the LFS because he got too big for their tank. he is GORGEOUS, and active and way more outgoing than the atabapo/butterfly/L052 plec. The L052 is still in the tank, I don't think he'll pose a threat to the newcomer... cuz he's big. ;)
