My 185gal build in progress (lots of pics)

Pricematch the PetSmart store with petsmart.com. You'll save $8 - $20.

Actually, try to match w/ Drs Foster&Smith or BigAls - you may save even more!

PS - Nice work (though I'm a little concerned about Cichlids, goldfish & mollies/plattys being together...)

PPS - welcome to AC [/hijack]

OK, well I understand you may not have read 300+ posts in detail; Thanks for the kind words. The mollies are there to produce offspring for my BGK to eat. The mollies themselves will either get eaten, or if they start to be abused I will move them - I wouldn't want to watch them die a slow death. The goldfish will also be moved eventually... although right now he's the largest of the middle-dwelling daytime fish, and gets his fair share (usually MORE actually) of food, and tends to chase everyone else when it suits him.

0.6 ppm Ammonia, 0.3ppm nitrite tonight (bought the master kit from Hagen) of course, the stupid Hagen kit doesn't have a nitrAte test in it (wtf?), so I'll have to buy one tomorrow. the test strips I have that do nitrate are crud.

Buddy the gold fish has dropped a rank on the pecking order. The blue acaras, though still smaller than him, decided to beat the snot out of him, and now chase him regularly. Buddy's spirits are undampened, and I'm going to wait to see if he stays relatively unharmed and figures out how to stay out of their way instead of swimming around like he owns the place and chasing everyone else. He can't be hurting too bad; he's still hyperactive and eats anything (including poop).

This happened once before with the butterfly plec - finally had enough and beat him up, but then everything was OK after that, so maybe he learns.. :p

Time for a 50% PWC - gotta keep that NO2 (and NH3) down.

I've been adding small doses of prime to keep the ammonia low enough not to be a problem, but high enough not to stall the cycle. I will do another level test tonight, and probably a PWC... there is lots of pleco poo to vacuum up! The big guy has demolished 3 sizeable chunks of zucchini in the past few days... the large fiber intake is really start to make my plants look like tiny kids have been at them with toilet paper rolls.

it looks like your cycle is moving along nicley. before you know it it will be time to stock this tank!

I think maybe you missed something...

The tank is pretty much stocked. All the fish are small, but most of them will grow quite a bit. I'd really like to put an oscar or an Aro in the mix, but I think the oscar would beat everyone up, and I haven't decided if I like Aro's enough to go through the trouble yet.

Moon lights!

They've learned that my presence, even plugging in the moon-lights must mean food:
