My 29g Set-up

Oooh clown drama! So beautiful next to that ulvaceous leaf! That's a boy right? Need to see more fishies!! (What kind of camera are you using? Much nicer pics than my point & shoot)

Oh, I commend you on the live food venture... you'll get spawning behavior for sure!

I like the velcro you used for the front screens, but how did you attach the back one? I like that idea and may need to use it when I swap out my 20g hood.

I'll get more pics up as they come. The CPDs are much more outgoing this AM, so hopefully they'll become photogenic for me!
The back screen is attached to the frame of the hood with silicone. It's not a rigid material, so I also have it taped to the back of the tank frame. On the front, I added a wooden dowel for support.
The camera is a Canon Powershot SX10IS. Essentially, it's a bridge between an DSLR and a point and shoot. I don't know what I'm doing with it really, but it's good enough that I can get lucky sometimes!

The social order of the Clown Killi is fascinating. They've been in the tank for 4 days, and they now seem comfortable and happy.
There is one alpha-male. He hangs out by the Riccia mat and won't let any other fish near it, but there are two females that hang out just at the edge of his territory. If another male gets near these two, the big guy chases him off.
There is a male and female pair that hang out together under the filter overhang.
There is a lone male at the top that makes frequent attempts at stealing one of the big fish's ladies, but so far, no luck.
Then, there's one more big male. He's the only one that doesn't hang out at the surface. Instead, he stays close to the CPD's in the bottom third of the tank behind the driftwood in the Anubias forest.
I love these little fish. Neat to watch, and they look good. Especially so when they're hunting the Moina. Then they are stunning.

I don't believe it. Video documentation would probably help to support this fictional tale. :p:

Dangit, I'm so jealous of your killies... So all 7 survived?

I'd also like to see some shred of evidence that these mythical CPD exist in your tank... Could just be swamp gas bouncing off a random planaria.

You want more jealousy, Fishycat? I was looking at my new shrimp (pics of that tank to come when they color up--all healthy) and saw out of the corner of my eye a CPD moving really, really weirdly. I looked over and saw a pair of them wiggling together. Not long after, I saw the female drop eggs onto the moss. I have no idea if they're actually fertilized or not (I thought the male would fertilize after they were laid, and I didn't see that), and even if they are, I bet snails would eat the eggs, and if they didn't, the fry probably wouldn't make it, but STILL... COOL!

But seriously, that is awesome - shows that you are doing things right! :thm:

I'd like to hope that if I had females in my tank, I'd maybe have similar experiences myself.

Yep... You need to get some girls in your tanks!
Here's a crummy pic of one of my CPD.
And a pic of an egg! I think this one is infertile--I read that fertile ones are a bit translucent, and this one is opaque white. I'll keep an eye on it. It's very small, much smaller than it looks in this pic. Most are in the moss and impossible to photograph, this one shows up against the wood.
I have two different strains of CPD. I have 4 from the killi breeder. They're darker, nearly black on the body with gold specks and deep red on the fins. They're also a bit bigger. The 3 I got from the fish store are lighter colored overall and have orange, rather than red on the fins. They all hang out together and, in fact, the two that were courting are from the different strains. The male from the killi breeder, and the female from the LFS.

A blurry CPD:

And a pic of a shrimp. It looks a little more blue than in the pic, but they're not fully colored yet. I'll post about that tank elsewhere when they color up more.

Very pretty shrimp! Are you using the macro setting on your cam? Just double-checking...

I don't know about different strains... Really? My guys are like your breeder's... Red find & gold spots. I'll have to research that for when I go looking for females!
