What a mixed day.
The BAD: I am about to lose a CPD. He's quarantined and not doing very well. I think it's a swim bladder issue, but looks pretty severe. It could be dropsy, but I think it's the former, probably from overfeeding*, stress, or just plain bad luck. I'm trying green peas, or will, if he looks like he can eat them. He's always looked a little unusual, with the band of plain gold-colored scales over his back extending further down than on the others, so who knows?
Water is fine, 0/0/5.
The GOOD:
More CPD spawning. This is the third time I've seen it. It's definitely what they're doing. I may set up a 10 gallon breeding tank and give it a try. It's a trio, and the male is my stunner, so breeding him wouldn't be a bad thing.
It's going to be hot all this week, but as soon as it breaks I'm going to have shipped to me the 10 tank-bred Cory Pygmaeus I purchased. Looking forward to them. Hopefully tank-raising will make them less shy than the species reputation. Oh, I also added a red spot nerite.
*I do need to feed less, but I worry the CPD's won't get enough with the ravenous clown killis up top. I'll probably not feed much less, but I will mix in fast days. I use maybe a third of a cube of BBS, crushed flake, and mosquito larvae, on a rotating basis. Clown Killis get wingless fruit flies most days. Just starting a grindal worm culture that will replace the mosquito wigglers.
