another piccy of Cedric!

Today he was filtre feeding above the gravel, oddly!...but I think this is the result of my fantails spawning this morning, and its disturbed him somewhat...the oval you can see is his mouth parts.

Wow, that's fascinating! I was always wary of clams because so many people have had bad experiences. But I suppose it's much like snails - they just need a little specialized care.
Cedric is definitely the coolest clam I've ever seen. Go Cedric!

Very cool clam. We don't really hear much about people keeping clams so its nice to see someone having such a positive experience with one.

I am sure he has indeed enjoyed some spawn, as I belive it is the spawning in the first place that encouraged him to come up like this! His shell is wide open on the otherside (wish I could get a piccy) but he is facing with his shell towards me! He is certainly enjoying the extra nutrients in the water! :grinyes:

Cedric and my fantails have alway got on well and he is big at over 3 inches long, so I dont think he will be eaten...However they are not used to seeing him like this "openly" feeding so they have give him a curious nibble but I dont think he tastes too good as they swim off straight away!! If Cedric felt threatened his shell would clamp tight shut!
I have just set up my nursery hatchery and the fish are more interested in this at the moment!
Never keep clam with fish with teeth!!! and certianly never keep them with clam eaters such as crab, lobster and even some kind of shirmp!
