And coincidentally, mine as well for the most part if you don't include the 20g I had when I was 15.

Her birthday is coming up, and we somehow got blessed with a wonderful $250 cheque from the government for something to do with child care benefits.

being that her birthday was so soon, and I had the money right now, me and my mom went splits and purchased a brand new 35g, with a perfecto hood, and a penguin 200 filter. I had gravel and a visitherm deluxe kickin' around to finish it off. $188.30 later, she has a very nice (sized) tank in her bedroom.

The desk its sitting on is a very well built desk, and doesn't move in the least, even when shoved. It appears to be holding the weight without issue at all.... although my daughter can no longer use her desk :)

she loves the tank, and once I pickup a power bar, thermometer, and timer, its basically ready to be cycled.

Heres my problem though, the glass is bowing because there is no center brace, and there isn't a lot of frame lip to screw a brace onto, so how could I go about adding a plexi-glass center brace and have it very permanently mounted to the little lip on the frame?

Anyway, there is water in it, in the pics, the flash just makes it look like there isn't.
anybody got suggestions? ideas? comments? I don't want her to have one of those fruity children's tanks, I want her to get to know her stuff properly and have a really nice looking tank.

I just wanted to say what a nice gift, she will learn so much growing up with this hobby.

The tank looks great. I bet she can't wait for it to cycle and get some fish in there. Do you have used tank media to hurry up the process?
I'm not sure about the brace, just wanted to applaud the great gift....

no used media.... this will end up being the tank that cycles my 50 in the living room once I get that monster project finished.... gotta focus on the redecorating right now though.

and then it will be another 35g or so, for our bedroom once my gf catches the MTS bug muhahahahaha.

I already have and I dont even have a tank setup yet.

you didn't think I bought the aquarium for my daughter did you ;)

j/k ..... but its fun for both of us :D we can learn together.

no its glass, and it is bowing, which kind of bothers me, id say its off about 1/8" or maybe just slighty more.

that desk is solid.... im very surprised how well it is built. It has four main sheets of solid wood as the legs, which would divide the weight by 100lbs per "leg", and it is also solid wood.... not particle board or the like.

I need to get 1/4" shims to bring the desk up to level, but that won't be a problem.... just not sure how to hide the shims so it doesn't look weird.

Put a sheet of foam insulation underneth it?.

Im going to order a couple of sheets of "EVALite" from work. Its a foam rubber material that I can cut to shape, and stack to add support under the tank.
4 sheets of it under the tank, as well as a brace on the bottom and top should secure everything up nicely.

I will see if I can order the sheets of E.V.A. tomorrow, and I would have them by wed.

I just need to find a glue that is stupid strong, and will bond plexi-glass (or lexan) to the plastic that the frame is made out of.

Aw, I wish my dad was as thoughtful as you. Too bad he has refused to let anymore tanks through the door.

Ill get as many as I can fit in this small apt lol.

We had a 10 gallon given to us a while back, and it had a piece missing from the top corner, that I had fixed, but then subsequently ended up breaking.
So I promised to replace it.

I have now kept my promise. :D:D
