So... I've researched DIY CO2 pretty much continuously for the past day or so and I think that I've come up with a plan for my 55g. I eventually plan to have the following system:

Until then, I will have 2 2L bottles with 2 cups sucrose to 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast and 2 1/4 cups water. I'll drill the lids for airline tubing, connect the two tubings with a Y connector and run the one tubing up the intake for my AC70. Does that sound like a plan for the interim while I get the parts for and set up this larger system?

Meh, I've dome something similar to my 29, I removed the gas separator but will be putting it back in. As for a diffusion method, that will work but it takes up space, and hard to hide. I don't suggest feeding it to the HOB, cause that will probably gas everything off. I've tried it myself. didn't get any effect on it.

Now what you could do is get a small powerhead or one of the internal Fluval filters (like the 1+) and feed it to that.

That sounds like a perfect plan. I have a very similar set-up to that which you propose, save for my using a glass diffusor rather than the powerhead. Also, there is much contention about the use of those check-valves. Many folks would not live w.out them, but I (personally) think they are just another possible point for gas to leak from. The less breaks you can get away with in your tubing, with jointers or whatnot, the better. In DIY, you need to retain as much gas as you can. Now,I know that the check valves are there to prevent a possible back-siphon issue, but if you think about it, you have three SEALED bottles at the end of the line, how much water will drain from your tank? Really? 2/5ths of not very much, methinks.

I'm babbling again. Your plan sounds perfect. Good luck!!

I will try the internal filter and ditch the chack valves. Wierd question, can this system be run from ground level with the tubing going up to the tank? Or will gravity be too much fot the gas to overcome?

Also, I'm assuming that I would run that filter with no media?

Ok, I got the Fluval 1+ as my internal filter/delivery device. Do I just run the airline tubing into the filter intake? Should I try to get the tubing as close the the impeller as possible? Also, I will be using 2 3L bottles should I change the amounts of sugar/yeast or just add more water to top the bottle off?
