My first 29gal Fowlr

Well nothing new is going on with the tank. Except the diatoms seem to be getting worse. Ammonia and nitrites are still at 0:dance2:. Oh and my salinity is at 1.026 according to my subtract .004 from my hydrometer method, so I'm gonna start topping the tank off with fresh RO water.

Tank looks very nice, if it's anything like mine I started a couple months ago you'll have lots of algae/diatoms/purple/green stuff soon. My single snail makes short work of it though for the most part but I still have to use the mag float to clean the glass sometimes.

I just had an explosion of green hair algae, if you see any do yourself a favor and get rid of it asap. I thought the little bit looked cool but now that little bit has turned into A LOT.

Thanks, hopefully the diatoms will start to subside soon.

I do have some green hair algea that came on a piece of live rock, so far it hasn't spread as far as I can see. I'm hesitant to remove because I heard hermit crabs feed on it, so I figured when I add them they'd have something to eat. Is this a bad idea??

Tank looks great, I hope you don't start having problems due to adding fish at such an early stage. Keep up with the water changes, I doubt your tank is able to handle that fish load at this point. Good luck.

I thought the same which is why I left it but it's getting out of control fast unfortunately.

If/when it moves to more visible areas I will removie it by hand, until then I'll just be hard headed:)

Thanks for the compliment. And lets just hope your wrong about that last part... In a good way of course. :D

On another note my parents (who rock:headbang2:) got me my birthday present.

Anyone have any feed back for this fixture? The only complaint I have is that the built in timers are a little tricky to set, other than that I dont have any/enough experience to comment on anything else about them.

Did a 5 gallon WC last night, and everything is looking good still. I also found out I set up the timers correctly on the first try.:grinyes: Right now the actinics come on at 6:45am and turn off at 9pm, the the t-5's come on at 7:45am and turn off at 8pm.

Water Parameters
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 5 or 10 cant tell

I'm loving the lights the tank looks so much brighter.

Something I didn't take in to consideration is the width of the light fixture. I can only open the glass top about 3 inches before it hits the legs of the fixture, and that's with me removing the HOB filter and moving the fixture all the way back to the edge of the tank.

Ahh!!!:wall: Well I now see why everyone hates these seaclone skimmers right after I tested the water (keep in mind I never even came close to the skimmer) micro bubbles started pouring out of the skimmer like crazy. Anyone have any recommendations on a decent HOB skimmer that wont empty my wallet?

Some people don't like them but my CPR Bakpak 2 is doing well, I got the pre-skimmer and bubble trap also. I get some nasty stuff out of the cup all the time and the bio bale collects the rest of the muck. I've yet to do anything but empty the cup, that is it.

As quickly as the bubbles showed up they have disappered... All I did was close the air valve so the was no air mixing with the pump then opend about 15 minutes later it seems to be back to normal
