I have never had a problem with algea, just the usual on the glass which gets cleaned when I do a water change but not that much, also have a few shrimp that deal with the minor ones, but never had a major outbreak.
Just a case of keeping the ferts and the number os hours the lights are on to balance everything, also don't do water tests, too lazy for that lol just see what the plants and fish are doing on a daily basis. Just keep the continuous CO2 checker going.
I have had the tank for years, first as a goldfish tank, then as a plastic plant tropical tank and only recently decided to go the whole planted tank and did some major upgrade to the equipment
Amazing tank, very inspiring! Sorry to ask yet another question, but what DIY solution do you use for your Hagen CO2 system? Stabilizer/Activator packs are a true waste of money.
They sure are a waste of money! They designed a good system, yet have poor products to use with it.
Questions to London:
Where did you buy your plants at? online?
What kind of substrate do you have?
How long have you had the system running?
What method of DIY c02 do you use?

I use Baking Soda and Yeast, full tea spoon of Baking Soda and 3/4 of a tea spoon of Yeast, fill with sugar to the recommended amound by hagen, and then just had water to the top level, lasts just over a week, since I have two I change one when I do the water change at the weekends and the other in mid week. Works out cheaper and more reliable.

All my plants come from my local fish store, except the riccia which I purchased from a member of a forum.
Substrate is just normal gravel nothing else, was good enough for goldfish when I first started and never changed it.
I have had the tank for about 5 years, but it was first set up as a goldfish tank, then became a tropical with lots of plastic plants, then added the odd plant here and there which kept dying.
Over the last 2/3 months I upgraded the lighting and started dosing dry ferts and also have two hagen CO2 kits with DIY solution running. For the method just take a look at the post above
