My Freshwater Fishtank makes my House smell! Help!

i have a 180g and a 100g in my living room and i dont smell a thing. if i take the hood off and get right down to the water theres a kind of earthy type smell but its very faint. my 100g doesnt smell at all i dont think.

i do remember when i started out with a very hugely massively overstocked 10g goldfish tank that did stink the house out, so much so i was doing a water change every couple of days, still didnt stop it. turned out i wasnt cycled as i wasnt using dechlorinator and i was also over feeding as i liked to 'interact' with my fish. i still feel bad for those poor fish :uhoh:

Be sure you have no undetected damp spots in your carpet, maybe a small leak or dripping condensation is generating mold under/in your carpet.

...
Java fern,
Java moss,
Anachris (egeria densa or elodea, sensitive to Flourish
...

I second the recommendation of java fern & java moss. I'm bad at plants and have killed just about everything else I've tried, but those two thrive even under my questionable care.

Anacharis is often recommended as a hardy, quick-growing plant, but make sure that it is legal where you are. Elodoa densa, which is the commonly sold species, is highly invasive and illegal in many states. Elodea canadensis is smaller and much harder to find, but I don't think it's banned anywhere.

guys i also have problems too w/ my tank. Its doesn't stinks but it has algae,i do 30-40% water change twice a week.my filtration system is under gravel filter and a wet-dry trickle filter..why is an algae on my tank??it consist 20" Channa Micropeltes and 2 common plecos??and take note the snakehead has a tail rot and fin rot and itch also..but if you will look on my tank the water is crystal clear..

I would reduce the amount of time you keep your lights on.
