My neons are dying!

Hey guys! Haven't been on recently, things were going well. Then , out of the blue, one of my neons died, a day later i noticed another one that didn't look good. It seemed to have gotten skinny and a hunch back over night.It looked bad this morning I don't know if he's passed away yet, (I don't have the heart to euthanize them) I don't know what to do, please help :help:

tell us your water parameters,,is tour tank cycled? also you say they have a hunch back,,what electrical equipment do you have in the water?
 
My parameters are good. the tanks been cycled, they've been in there for about a year. Actually i didn't want to say anything(i didn't want to get ragged on-he was going to a bigger tank) but my bala died a weeks ago-from what seems to be the same thing. About the electrical stuff-WHAtT?! could i be electricuting them- it does have and old heater?

check on the heater,about your parameters ..."good" is not a measure
i have heard that stray current in the aquarium can actually bend the fishes spine , anyways am not good at diagnosing fish deseases so i really can t tell you what sickness they have,more people much more experianced may post ! dont abandon this thred! Good luck! :cool:
 
The ph 7.6, kh120 , gh140 , chelated iron: .1 nitrate 0, ammonia 0, cholrine 0, chloramine 0. How would i find out if i'm electricuting them?

It's unlikely that there's a current causing the problem--anything significant enough to result in spine curvature would also be giving you a pretty good tingle anytime you worked in the tank--more so, since you would be grounded, and the fish are not.

Neons typically are not from good stock--often inbreed and exposed to a variety of poor conditions both on the farms and during shipping...But typically problems from these issues show up early on, within a week or two of purchase.

Feeding? Water changes? Other tankmates?
 
I do regular water changes every week about 25%. I did give them a treat of blood worms last week, but not alot(they usually have flakes). and also i did move 2 corys ( 3 weeks ago)from my 10 gal. betta tank(they weren't getting along). Now, in my 20 gal. there are 5 corys,2 danios, 6 neons,1flame tetra and 1 RTS (which i'm buying a bigger tank for)thanks again

I havnt really been keeping up... how long have you had the neons?

I had a batch of neons (14) and all died within six days of adding them. The lfs experienced a large percentage of loss from the same batch as well. It looked like neon tetra disease.

Im pretty new to fish as well. So take my opinion with a rgain of salt.

Well, I do know that curving of the spine and an emaciated look are signs of neon tetra disease, but that's all I know about it. I wouldn't jump to conclusions until you've done proper research. I'm not sure how long it takes to show or how you even get it, and if one of your sharks died from it too than I'm not sure it would be that. Just something to look into though.
 
I've had them for about 6 months or so now and they were doing great then all of a sudden this happens, I did have a few die when I initially got them, so I agree that they are poorly bread, probably the cause. They also got stressed out when I replaced my tank when it leaked a few months ago. I'll wait it out and see if the others survive. My water may be to hard for neons to thrive in.
