My new betta

That is a fine temp and if it stays that stable then great. I know I need to get a heater as the room my betta is in can get colder at night and if I am away from the house for a day during the winter the ambiant temp usually drops. A smaller volume of water will cool off much quicker than a larger one so be aware of that and good luck with your new little guy!! :)

You're betta will tell you too...if he is slow, pale, or not eating, he is unhappy. Mine likes a temp of 80ish for minimum. I would suggest using pellets as a base, then add the other stuff as treats. My betta loves bloodworms(fish flakes, brine shrimp, tubifex worms, and peeled peas) in fact he trolls the tank until all the food is gone. Don't overfeed- it is really easy.

I had a nearly white one, with blue and red on his cheeks, who'd go completely pale if something was wrong, especially during water changes- temp, pH, etc. He even reminded me once that I had forgotten to condition the water. They are very cool like that. You know when something is up.

My betta likes to chew his tail. I haven't read too much on it, I assume it is stress, but if you notice his tail getting shorter. that is my helpful info that you probably won't read elsewhere.

My fish hobby started too with one betta, and now I have 3 tanks. they're addictive. Enjoy your fish! They have great personality.

Just wanted to welcome you to the betta obsession...I actually dream about mine!!! What once was a $4 investment turned into a several hundred dollar investment...and I just love him!!! So much personality. They definitely need it warm mine got sick before I realized how cold he was and fixed up his tank. Mine also communes with a snail and shrimp rather peacefully (nobody is trying to eat anyone else!) Also they love water sprite...taking rests in it throughout the day.

yeah i love my betta as i call him max...i observed bettas are smart as he knows when im feeding him (when i open my tank lid) he automatically goes up and waits for me to drop the pellets...he gets very excited about it and he knows when your watching him, he likes to show off spreading off his tails...i noticed though sometimes he stays down the surface and wouldnt move many times i almost scooped him out thinking hes dead, is this normal? or thats how they sleep? also i got some left over goldfish flakes can i feed him those? thanks guys! anykind of tip as to how to make my betta healthy and happy would be very much appreciated...thanks guys! any thread around here of pictures of ur bettas?
