I was so excited to be getting a breeding pair of these. When I got the box on Monday it was very stinky and wet.

Uh oh.

This is bad.

Here is the beautiful male:

Amazingly, the female was still hanging on.

There was a live arrival guarantee, so the seller offered another male (though I really wanted a breeding pair and we know how cichlids prefer to chose their own mates), or gave me the option of several juvies. I opted for juvies since they are likely to ship better and I have room to grow them out. I asked that they please send them in regular bags, since the male had spiked the breather bag (which was double bagged without wet newspaper between the bags, plus a 5" fish in a 6" bag...) but the seller refused and insisted on a breather bag. Not much I can do on my end...

So I watch the tracking status all day today. I see they're out for delivery, so I rush home from work early to get them. When my office manager hands me the box she says be careful, it's dripping.

Uh oh.

Not again. :mad2:

Two were very very dead, the other two are currently floating on their sides in my tank.

The seller has now offered me a $5 refund of my $25 purchase or they will send another male at my cost for shipping. I'm sorry, poor packaging of fish is not my fault.

What would you do if you were in my situation?

Definitely file a PayPal dispute...that's what PayPal is for! I'm sure they will side with you, the buyer.

I'm sorry about the fish, how awful :(

5" fish in a 6" bag.....geesch.

Did you order these from Aqua Bid? I had a horrible experience ordering some apistos. In the end i paid $100 for 3 apistos and being sent nasty emails from the seller. I haven't used aqua bid since. Unfortunately i did not have a live arrival guarantee but the seller assured me that everything would be fine. Boy was he wrong and boy was i stupid. Sucks man sorry for your loss.

As Rachel said, I would ask for half the money back, since the female did survive. But if the seller refuses to do that, I'd file the Paypal claim, and honestly, I'd want to let everyone here know who the seller is so we can avoid making purchases from that person. I know I would not want to buy fish from this person, not knowing about this situation, AND the fact this person did not do what was right to make things right for you.
