My new Jack Dempsey and EBJD

Your EBJD looks male to me. His fin stucture resembles my largest male.

Update on my pair.
The 2nd spawn of eggs were layed last night. They look fertal. My male is now about 6 inches. I will post some pictures soon.

From what I read to have them spawn since they are sutch shy fish it is best to turn the flower pot backwards. This is what I have done but the problem is you dont see them much or enjoy them. So I have to wait for the right moment to get my shot of both of them together out of the pot.

It's still very early, but as a guess I'd say your blue dempsey is female because the fins are rounded off at the ends. I believe when I got mine, it had pointed fins already and the female one had rounded fins.

As far as the regular dempsey, I don't know.

HTH

EDIT: I didn't notice the second page of posts.... now that the BD is older, it does look more male, but still hard to say since the fins got nipped by the JD.

Good luck with your BD... what are you feeding it right now?

Thanks for the replies

I feed them once a day. Their main food is New Life Spectrum Pellets. I mix the "Growth" formula and the "all purpose formula.

About 3 times a week i will feed them Frozen Mysis Shrimp. On occasion they will also get freeze dried blood worms and freeze dried krill.

They dont really like the blood worms that much but they really go nuts for the Mysis shrimp.

Regular Jack is female, Electric Blue is male.
