Ok, so here it is, my first post. I'll try to explain my pond cause my computer hates it when I try to upload pictures to websites. Stupid puter!
I have a 150 gal triangularish pond with 11 goldfish in it and 1 koi (no barbels so not a koi?) This is what I call the "sweet spot" These fish go at it like crazy! I think I've had atleast a dozen batches of eggs and you know I can't ignore them so this brings me to the next phase...
Out front I have a half whisky barrel with a liner of course. I put whatever the fish laid eggs on in here to hatch... I have my pump in a 20 oz bottle with holes and a nylon stocking on top. This keeps anyone from getting sucked up. Works well too! On to Phase 3...
I have a 5 gal. tank inside (for my daughter) that i've put some babies in. I needed extra room... Around the filter intake I have a kids juice bottle with holes and a nylon stocking over it. yes, it works! lol! Phase 4...
I put some of the bigger fry in the top of the big pond which is maybe a 10 gal liner that overflows into the big pond. I fashoned a guard out of centimeter square wire screen with window screen over top to keep the babies out of the big pond. I don't want them to become lunch.
Anyways, I'm running out of room for babies and the fish won't stop laying eggs! Crazy fish! I'm seriously thinking about "borrowing" my daughter's wading pool and putting some fry in it with a bubbler (airator?)
Anyways you guys will think I'm crazy cause when I clean the ponds out... get this... I don't put anything in the water. No dechlorinator, nothing. I fill up a kitchen trash can (never used for trash) throw the fish in there, drain the pond, scrub it, fill it back up and throw the fish back in.
It doesn't seem to bother the fish, they do swim around angrily for a bit, but get over it when i feed them.
Anyways, I'll post pics when the computer lets me.
