So far my tank has 4 goldfish. 2 Green Cory Cats. 2 Redtail Botia Loaches. and 2 Yellow Zebra African Cichlids. tank setup. 45gal tall, UGF with 300gph powerhead. Soon to be a Eheim Classic 2213 Canister
goldfish and african cichlids dont mix.. COMPLETELY different needs..i reccomend you get rid of either the goldfish or the cichlids, the loaches and corys dont mix with goldfish or africans cichlids either,
go with a species tank, or a community tank
a species with the africans, a community with the corys, loaches, maybe some tetras, and livebearers
Yea I know that, Im keeping it like this for a few months sense the Cichlids are so much smaller then the goldfish. when it becomes a problem i will get rid of them. most likely i will get rid of them before it becomes a problem though. the loaches and corys are my cleaning crew for my gravel.
africans like hard water, with a ph of 8.5-9.0 where as goldfish like it at 6.5-7.0 either way, one of these species is suffering
any way you can put the goldfish or cichlids into a new tank? or possibly give the goldfish to a local LFS and get a PH buffer?
that would be your best bet..
also..my apologies if im coming off as a prick, no intentions of that, just trying to help
you could get a buffer from the LFS, just a normal PH buffer, and raise it very slowly, keept it at 7.5 for now, the cichlids will acclimate to that a bit better
Fish do not read pH and it is fine where it is at.
Do not use the buffers and end up chasing pH all over the place. Consistency is better than some ideal touted by books relating a natural pH that the fish were never in to begin with.
Ok. Now i understand about the PH and stuff. my nitrates are at 40 and amonia at .25 so im doing a 5gallon water change. will 5gallon suffy or should i do 10
