My tanks

Hey guys thanks for the comments! The 10 Gal has a couple assassin snails in it to combat the snail infestation, so in combination with the Betta I envisioned a savage war scene when I was putting it together. The Betta's name is Sgt. Elias and I picture the the minnows as the helicopters flying overhead :)

NeonJulie: The minnows really like the surface, even before I introduced Sgt. Elias into the tank they would hang out there. They do spread out though alot, but it seems when they get nervous they go to the top...seems kind of counter intuitive to me. In any case, they are alot of fun to watch, most of the ones in the tank are actually second generation. I had some spawning awhile back but I have never been able to have it happen again.

Rockhoe14er: They are actually Bolivian rams. I have a pair and they paired off almost immediately as soon as I introduced them into the tank. They will spawn about once a month, but the female always eats the fry. It is interesting actually, that the male is the one that guards the eggs. I have been noticing some really aggressive behaviour between them during the egg watching periods. Lots of headbutting as the female gets too close.

I will post pics of the other tanks when I get home this evening.

Again thanks for the comments!

I'm still laughing at the invasion of green army men. Great idea! Gorgeous tanks too. (Funny how your mountain minnows are basically at the surface line. Mine hardly go up that high?)

Could be the betta tending to keep them up there. Army men are awesome in that invasion tank. GL

^ nah they did that even before I introduced him into the 10 Gallon. I initially had them in the 46 gallon and they did it in there as well. It sure made catching them easy when I decided to move them :)

Their behaviour really did not change at all when I added Sgt. Elias.

Here are some pics of the 20 long, I really like this size tank. I wanted a shallow river scape with riparium style above waterlevel plants.

Everything about this tank has been on the cheap (except for the fish). It was derimmed and the bottom panel broke in the process. So I replaced the bottom panel and resealed it. There are alot of scratches but it was free :)

I am using an old HOB filter which I am hoping to replace very soon with a canister. The lights are walmart clip on desklamps with 23 Watt 6700K spiral bulbs. I built a light rig out of PVC. I have DIY CO2, but it is highly inefficient because of the HOB. The 'riparium planter' consists of a walmart showercaddy with suction cups lined with polyfil and filled with mineralized topsoil.

The tank has a trio of apisto agassizzi (male and two females). There are three caves (two of them are PVC pipes that I stuck in the substrate). The driftwood was collected from a lakeside near my place.

Plants are dwarf Sag, jungle vals, java moss, java fern, baby tears, dwarf baby tears, anubias nana petite, creeping jenny.

I am hoping to upgrade the filter to a canister and the lights to T5's soon. Until then it is a bit of a battle with the algae.

Taking pictures with the spotlights I have is bloody impossible so the quality is pretty poor.
