Had to look up those latest 'bows of yours. They are going to be fabulous! How big would you say they are now?
I like the green eye sheen & subtle body color promise of better to come! I love watching juveniles grow into their full potential. That's my favorite part of our hobby these days, well, & plants...
The smallest ones are about 1.2" and the largest about 1.8"
They should reach 3-4" adult size.
I was torn between those and maccullochi "skull creek" rainbows... decided on the bleheri as the mature males get a really tall body shape, I figured it would stand out better than another dwarf species, since I've already got the praecox rainbows. Gives me variety of shapes for a more dynamic group of rainbowfish.
I ordered online from my usual store, though they didn't have a picture on their listing for them... because they're super small juvies without the distinctive colours. But I think that'll be the fun part of growing them out, seeing them develop.
I got a group of 8 of them, figured I'd have best chances of male and females together. For sure 2 are male, rest are harder to tell. So happy at least there.
One came in missing the larger dorsal fin, like legit just not there, but that's alright as I don't mind less than perfect fish. Can live as a happy pet all the same.
I know some people would be pretty mad to receive a fish like this, as it does seem genetic rather than injury. But all the same for me, just means if I ever decided to breed these rainbows, this fish is not selected for that lol
It's bizarre to look at but he gets on well. Having just the one dorsal, reminds me of a shark so I named him Jaws
