Nasty fish for a 10 gallon tank

There are a few different types of shelldwellers you should consider. That was the first thing that came into my head as well.

LOL Galen, I was just wondering if it would end up eating its own tail, or ramming it's reflection in the glass!!!! A knuckle-biter, eh? :evil_lol: Get a bigger tank .. .. .. . . .

mantis shrimp are very cool animals. but this is a saltwater tank, so im sorta leaning towards that variety.

mean fish towards no one. just one dominant fish for the tank, who has got a reputation. lol rosita, dont look into it too much. i just want a fish that wont take no crap and hide. plus, he has to be active and territorial.

i had a convict once and when cleaning the tank, he bit my knuckle. he was my fav. fish from that moment on. that sort of fish, ya know.

too bad this tank is small, otherwise id just get a piranha!

My female betta absolutely dominates the tank and she chases after my finger all the time. She'll jump out of the water to get at it and I can hear her jaws snap. Bettas are small by nature, but I can't imagine something better that would be appropriate for a small 10 gallon tank.

their is a cichlid i seen at my LFS but i dont remember the name i will find out but they were in a 10 and were a mateing pair with fry. they were yellowish with great long and pointed fins ane were only about 4in. they had great fang like teeth that were black/brown so you could see them in contrast to their yellow mouth. they had like two canine teeth that were longer im sure they are agro but alone the teeth looked great. i wanted some but they are not big enouph for my other fish. good luck in your serch and i will find out the name.

sounds cool! thanks for the tip!

say, im just gonna toss this out, but would a leaf fish be too big for a 10 gallon tank? not the leopard ctenphenoba (probably spelled it wrong!), but the amazon leaf fish.

yea, rosita! id love to buy a big 70 gallon tank and stock it with knuckle biters! ut im on a college person's budget so i cant afford something bigger than the 10 at the moment. good idea though!

Black skirt or tiger barbs (both aggressive towards each other lol)

interesting idea, but dr fosters and smith say that a 20 gallon is best as the little beasties are territorial.

LiveAquaria says 30g, but I dispute that....but It would depend on how many you were thinking about keeping. They are a great site, but they aren't the end all to be all on fish information. If you are interested in the dwarf puffs, I would check out: http://www.dwarfpuffers.com/intro1.htm
Nice puffer people. :)

ya i say shell dwellers posobly a neolamprogus multifascus if i spelled that corectly there the smallest of all shellies

Ive seen some big leaf fish, and even though they don't move much, I think they would be much more suited to 20 or 30 gallons of water, becuase they are a predator, who produces a lot of waste, and I doubt 7-10 gallons of water would be appropriate for the amount of waste they produce, even though the size of the tank would be ok. I think they would be a great candidate for a hex tank, though, just not a 10, even though they never move. A tank Id like to set up is a 20-30 gallon hex, with one leaf fish in it. The thing that stops me, is their likely dependence on live fishes to eat. Stubborn little SOB's.. super cool fish though.
