Native Tank?

I love the mudminnows!! Great...before i was just thinking it would be nice having a native tank. Now after those pics, i'm ready to go buy a tank, break out my fly pole and go catch some sunnies. :-)

Im setting mine up right now, and threw in some perch from my pond just to have something swimming around in there. Im thinking about going native also.

Very natural looking! The wood and plants look great. Can't tell if the plants are real or artificial? Is the tank kept at room temperature?

the mudminnow is my favorite too. you should see the big one eat!

this is him (3") sucking down a 6" earthworm!

anyway, native tanks are awesome, you guys should definitley try it. the fish are very easy to keep, not very sensitive to anyrhing really, very hardy, eat pretty much anything (prefer live foods though, except cyprinids, they love flakes). and best of all, they're fun to collect and they don't cost you anything!

Not trying to be mean to the person who wanted one, but I just trapped a 3 inch long largemouth bass. I put him in my standby tank yesterday. Hopefully Ill have my 55 setup in a few weeks, and itll be native to southern Louisiana. Cypress knees, lilly pads(fake), sandy bottom, sand covered 3d background. It should be great. I am at the mercy of my wife though. We got some decorations with the tank and shes making me put them in there. They are an airplane, helicopter, and submarine that all looked like they crashed in the ocean. Meh! All I need now is a baby gar.

Disclaimer.
I know the 55 wont house the bass forever, hopefully when the time comes I can either upgrade to a few hundred gallons, or release him into my pond where he came from. Also I have a 10 gallon standby tank, im going to set that one up to grow marbled crayfish for food for the bass and sunfish I have.

i have had a florida native tank, but its shut down now. all caught by myself

i kept

4 wild mexican sailfins

2 lined topminnows

2 barrons topminnows

dwarf livebearers

and like ten fish i never did ID :D

I commend you. This is what I have done as well. Mainly bc hardly anyone does it and if I need more fish for whatever reason I just go out with my net and take my chances. I have 4 Bluegill, 2 Golden Shiners, 1 Pumpkinseed, and a Green Sunfish in a 55gal. The jury is still out on my shiner and bluegill. I almost put a white bass in my tank but everything would be gone.
