I ordered 3 Anentome helena a while ago from a fellow in the Netherlands, they showed up last Thursday morning and they are already eating the other snails in my tank. I have way to many MTS, Pond, and Ramshorn snails and figured I'd take the natural route. These guys hunt and eat other snails and its pretty interesting.

Here is one eating a small Ramshorn.

These are in my Wild Neocaridina sp. tank right now and do not bother the shrimp at all and visa-versa. Sorry about photo quality, but there is a layer of bio film on my glass in my shrimp tanks... I may clean the front for some better photos later.

They are interesting snails, I also like how they look.

I would not count on them to eliminate, or even controlling your snail population. If you watch them, they hunt and eat, then go into a dormant period. They are not voracious feeders.

If you have a serious snail problem, try reducing the food in the tank by doing frequent gravel vacuuming, and reducing the amount you feed.

I may have to buy some, just because they are neat! Keep us posted how they work out

It is not a serious snail problem and could be controlled by simple removal, but I have 28 tanks running and a few predators among the others will be a good thing. Truth is I just hate killing them. I have seen the Anentome helena eating on and off, but haven't seen them go dormant as yet, sounds interesting and how long does it last? I do not by any means want total removal and feel snails are good in my tanks, just some sort of other control measure. I actually feed very little as these are shrimp tanks, but there is a very healthy bio film growth in all my tanks which in turn feeds snails. If they wipe out to many I will move them to another tank....

Cheers, Bill
