Need Advice about my African Clawed Frogs!

A half full 55 gallon would be heaven for these guys. Like Schizo said, it would make a wonderful paludarium with some air plants and maybe some terrestrial animals. Although an Algea eater is not needed, you can put a Bristlenose pleco in that tank but if it were me, I wouldn't because I would be afraid of the pleco being aggressive to the ACF.

civic, i hope you're not apologizing :D

One of the great things about these forums is that there can be 'spirited' debate on topics such as these. Accepted 'best practices' based on science and practical specimen keeping/experience is very hard to refute. Generally, as long as things stay civil, everyone 'hugs and makes' up afterwards :) We're glad to have you as a member of the AC community.

I have never kept any aquatic frog (ACFs look fascinating!) and have no experience with their management. However, I would caution against the conclusion that 'approximate' recreation of a certain wild environment provides the best standard of care for any specimen. Even if they do occur at depth in the wild (e.g. a reservoir), optimal health in captivity may be best achieved under dramatically different conditions. The dynamics of aquatic environments in the wild are complex and can never be recreated in captivity. It seems that these guys are well-suited to 'shallow stagnant pools'. As airbreathers, I think I'd prefer to practically shorten the distance to the water's surface to ensure access under any unforseen conditions of stress or specimen exhaustion :thm:

Since everyone was so awesome, and i just want to show them off, :D, I figured I would post pics of my babies!

Their names are Margaret and Steve. I know, dont ask. My boyfriend named her, and I named him. The names really do fit now though!

I hope you don't mind if I borrow a few lines on your thread? I've been reading about ACF's recently, and that the males especially croak loudly during breeding season. How loud are they? Loud enough keep you awake if they're in the next room? Loud enough to make a neighbor in an apartment building complain or be annoyed?
