need advice on a 75 gal.

Other than the fact that the clowns and dollars will eventually need a larger tank, and the slight possibility of the guppys becoming lunch, you should be alright.

Here is what is in my 75:
5 clowns 4-7 inches
5 SAE 4-5 inches
40 cardinal tetras
8 or so sterbai corys
1 z danio

The tank is well planted and has an Eheim pro II 2026, AquaClear 300 and a Hot Magnum w/ micron cart. I have had this tank up and running for 2.5 years now and all are doing well. The fifth SAE was added two nights ago from a smaller tank. I do weekly wc of about 35%.

The tank had also held 4 discus which after 10 months had problems (lost 2) and survivors were removed and replaced with the cardinals. Bristles I put in always died- I do not know what they conflicted with but I gave up on them in that tank after losing a total of 5 over 6 month period.

I have never seen ich on any of my clowns ever, in fact my only case came home w/ tetras from an lps and all died in Q during treatment.

In another thread I've just looked at a couple of folks said that dollars may not eat neons, so you might want to research that a little more. Also, if you skipped the clowns, and assuming the dollars wouldn't eat the neons, you might be able to go back to your original list for the most part, and maybe not ever worry about getting a bigger tank! Let us know what you go with!

than you all for the advice
i everybody does seem to think the silver $'s will need a bigger tank but this is what ive read from the species section of this site

These Characins should be kept in schools of five or more. Although they don't get overly large, Silver Dollars are quick fish that need their space. Provide an aquarium of no less than 35 gallons for a small school.

and im having a hard time believeing that four 6" clown loaches will have that big of a bioload
i know they say they can get up to 12" but it also says that the rarely get over 6"

who knows ... lol

TwoTankAmin = what are SAE's ???... i should know this but im drawing a blank

It's not that you can or can't have clowns or silver dollars in a 75. IMO I think it looks pretty stupid to have such large fish in a med. size tank.

Hahaha thats funny you say that TONO, your 80g is basically the same footprint as a 75 and your JD will get as big as the silver dollars and pretty darn close to the size of the clown loaches. Its an oxymoron....hahaha.

A school of silver dollars is not going to look good in a 75 gallon. Trust me; Notice when I said silver dollar(s), clown loache(s) it was plural Seaman. :duh: It is completely different than having three 8'' cichlids that don't frantically swim about the tank. A school of sds' and a school of clown loaches is going to be alot more than three 8'' fish. Also my tank is shallow, long and deep. Unlike the regular 48*16*24 75 gallon. Not too surprised a comment like that came from a guy keeping a tsn in a 300 gallon.
