need car advice.

theyre foriegn, though almost everything is now.......sigh lucky cheech livin in canada

lol.. Lucky cheech? You know how many people drive down to the US to purchase cars there, cause they save thousands? even after paying duty and taxes!!!

A friend of mine has the elantra, but don't get fooled by it. Adding air, and automatic transmission already raise the price by quite a bit!!

Gotta check out the kia's., . . .

cheechy cheechy cheechy, have u thought of repairing your intrepid the icky car that it is:nutkick:

I have had good luck a few times using Carmax for used cars. My current car is from them. I traveled a couple hours to a neighborhood with more $ and found higher end cars in perfect shape at decent prices.
Leases are kinda odd these days. My wife's Charger is considered a lease. We swapped out her 06 for an 08 to get covered by the lifetime power train warranty. It is considered a long term lease of 60 months, but if we continue to pay until it hits 66 we own it. I verified no balloon payments or anything. Just 6 more payments the same as they are now.

hey cheech, remember...you do not have to pay sticker price. IF you can, go armed with pre-approved auto loan, that would be the best. Sometimes, having the finance ppl at the lot work to get you a better interest rate might do you some good. Aways get your credit score in advace to compare what they used - there are kickbacks to them on certain loans.

Hyundais are not bad cars IMO - I rented one for a trip to las vegas, and i was impressed how fast it got me there....380 miles away in 4 hours ;) I now have a Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Edition w/ all the bells and whistles for 23K out the door (sticker was $27K).
Also, you might want to look up incenctives for the kind of car you want. There have been up to $5K back on certain makes and models, so do some research.

and if the new ones are too expensive, try and get a used "certified". I got my '06 Grand Prix under blue book with 18Kmi left on the warranty. Check with your insurance company to see if you can get extended warranty coverage through them....do not buy it from the dealer ship. The finance guy makes a killing here. Some extended warranties through dealerships often have restrictions for servicing so you can't just take it to Jiffy LUbe, Econo-Lube, or WalMart for oil changes- you have to go through them.

Good Luck on your car shopping :)

keep in mind that when buying a new car you should always get one with stability control and side airbags. its a safety thing.

VW- go for the new VW Jetta TDI. the gas Jetta and Rabbit are also a really great choices. if you are willing to spend a little more, get a Tiguan, GTI, or Passat. all VW's (excl. VW Touareg2 V10 TDI) have available (or std.) six speed automatic transmissions which really help performance AND fuel economy.

Toyota- they have been having some real problems lately, especially with their newer models like the Camry and Tundra. until they fix these things, i wouldnt go near one. plus, the newer models have cheapo interiors.

Honda- ok if you fit in them and dont mind the noise. plus, the interior quality really isnt up to par with VW's. therefore, Hondas are not the best cars fo me in either aspect. i dont fit and the noise drives me nuts.

Mazda- the Mazda3 is good on gas and is pretty fun. the new Mazda6 is also pretty nice. if you look at the Tribute, the small SUV like the Ford Escape, wait for the 2009's. they get new engines that are more efficient and six speed-autos opposed to the old four speeds they have as 2008's.

Chevy- the new 2008 Malibu is acctually a very nice car, and you can find "hybrid" versions for pretty cheap. cobalts are lackluster, and Aveo's arent that efficient.

Dodge/Chrystler/Jeep- none of their vehicles would be on my list.

Subaru- dont forget to look at the new Impreza or the Forester. the only setback with them is that they still have 4 speed autos.

Hyundai owns Kia;)

I've had my Hyundai Sonata for about 4 years now, it's a pretty good car, and gets me where I need to go with okay gas mileage, with a touch of "class" (if you would call it that)

The '08 Kia's are pretty cheap right now. I saw a Spectra listed on tv for $9990. Just take a visit to Mentor, OH;)

ok... i'm with most of the guys here.. except i have no use at all for "german engineering".

i know there are a thousand fusions on the road.. but it's for a very good reason. i bought one in 2006 and i've NEVER regretted it. i got the 4 cyl with the manual trans and i can beat the EPA gas mileage ratings easily.. in fact i average 34 mpg overall (both highway and surface street driving), and the highway MPG rating on the sticker said 31 MPG. on one notable trip to Las Vegas we got 38 mpg on the highway going up (uphill), and 36 mpg coming back down (downhill), but i never took it out of gear and coasted like i should have... lol.

anyway, my only other suggestions would Toyota Yaris, my son wanted one so he could paint it to look like a mouse. and as much as it rubs me the wrong way, i'm hearing good things about the 2008 Ford Focus.. maybe they got all the stupid expensive stuff that breaks fixed finally?

when i was looking for my Fusion i put some serious thought into the Suzuki Aerio (i think i spelled that right) anyway, they have a sedan that's kinda nice and i kinda like the SX model that is a little station wagon kinda thing.. it's kinda cute and gets decent gas mileage. and they sell usually for under $14K.

If you're looking for a affordable car that you won't really mind beating up, like an appliance to get you from point A to point B, don't count out Hyundai or Kia. Probably the best value out there and they have great warranties as well (100K miles or was it lifetime). Unfortunately, they aren't worth very much later on but if gas prices continue in their current trend, that's probably going to change.

Btw, are you looking for automatic transmission only? Personally, I think econoboxes are much more fun (and a little more mpg) if you know how to drive manual.
