Need more advice on 1.5G

I know that this can cause some debate, and personally, I wouldnt do this, but logically thinking, a 1.5 gallon tank would be a much better tank for a betta fish than the cups they come in around my area. They dont really need a lot of room and dont swim all that much, from what I understand anyways. They naturally stay in small puddles so I think the 1.5 gallon tank is a sort of 'step up' or in the right direction for a betta fish in some aspects. It is heated and filtered and they do not need the big surface area at the top of the tank for oxygen exchange since they can pull air from the surface.

Not saying it is the best situation, but I am sure there are some reasons small tanks like this are kept.

If this was my tank, I would go planted tank or a q-tank for community fish that are small.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this  BUT I have two bettas, one in a 2.5 and another in a 1.5. I've gotta say, both my bettas seem equally active and content. Colors are terrific, water params are kept up, filters going strong. No issues yet and I've had both for 4 to 5 months. Would I like to house both in a larger set up? Of course, but space was a major issue in my new apartment. I've seen people on assorted aquarium boards housing bettas in far more disturbing habitats (ie: itty bitty unfiltered bowls and those small critter cages)

That aside, both tanks are heated. The 1.5 with a small half sized heater I picked up at a local WalStarMartOfDeath and the 2.5 with one of those flat pan mini heaters I grabbed at PetCo. Like with any sized tank, make sure you have a thermometer to monitor the temps and you should be alright. Sorry I can't help you with wattage...I honestly can't remember, but they were the smallest approved for "small tanks" that I could find.

Agreed.

Also, if your tank came with an internal filter, consider swapping out for an HOB filter. Red Sea Nano filter is a great one (I have it on my 2.5). You can get around the current if it's too strong by using half of a small soda bottle (craft project!). The HOB will free up some additional space within the tank itself. The whisper filters most come with are too bulky IMO.
