Ive been selling my stuff this week from my freshwater tank, and have some money coming in. I won't be buying the skimmer yet, but id like to know what im getting into before i get to deep into it.

Anyways, i won't be putting a sump in this tank right now due to finances or anytime soon. Id love to, but it simply is not possible. To compensate, i'll be doing 10% weekly water changes. R/O water will be used at all times.

Anyways, that means i'll need a H.O.T skimmer. The one im looking at is the.....

It's a Remora Pro. Now ive heard a ton of good things about this skimmer. It say's it's rated for tank from 60-125 gallons, and ive read that those ratings on this puppy are accurate, and not under valued like most manufacteres do on their skimmers. Ofcourse, i need you opinion. The tank is 72 gallons, and it will be FOWLR initially, where after a while it will slowly become a reef tank as i upgrade lighting and get the tank stable.

My question is, will this skimmer be good enough for a reef tank?? I was also looking at the coralife, but the thing is ugly, large, and obstructive. Just too **** big for a show tank. Id rather pay the 50 extra bucks and get something that looks decent, because you are after all gona see some of it.

Anyways, opinions would be great!!

I have a standard Remora on my 46 gallon. I'd recommend it with some qualifications as I had to do some little modifications before it started to perform as advertised.

The Remora Pro should be appropriate for a 72 gallon, although I think that 125 gallon is a bit optimistic.

Remoras are good, simple skimmers, but don't expect them to perform miracles as some have suggested.

Oh i don't expect miracles, just good enough performance for a reef tank, with some fish in their.

Im not looking for top end performance, just something that can hangover the back, and be good as some of the in sump skimmers in the mid price range.

I don’t want to sound like a pushy %$^%, but I would wait to get an in sump skimmer. You will not be disappointed. If you’re anything like me and advance to extremes you will beat yourself up later for this purchase. In sump skimmers are good at set and forget, and you will be surprised on how much guck a sump beast can take out.

But even in sump skimmers have ranges. From crap, to decent, to great.

The thing is, even if i go in sump, i'll spend no more then 300 + tax. At that price, their really isn't anything better then the Remora that could go in a sump.

Im talking Canadian dollars by the way.

I’ll try one more time. :cool2: You can check this site for a blemished Euro-reef skimmer. They carry blemishes for fewer than $250 at times. http://commerce2.i2net.com/able5stores/stores/33/directory.aspx

I had to use the hippy. :)

lol.

Well, the problem here is, those are American prices. Not that the conversion is a big deal, but duties and taxes kill you these days.
I paid almost $20 on two GE bulbs from Atlanta to toronto, plus taxes. That is almost more then the freakin bulbs!!

But hey, i appreciate your opinions.
