Need Some Species Advice

The species profile is incorrect on this site ....that is one of the issues the new owner is going to be working on (hopefully) the rainbow shark may only get to around 6" but it requires a much bigger tank:

you are doing the right thing by coming here for advice..there are many knowledgable people here who will help you, but along with advice given look up a few you are interested in and see wht you can find out.

ok i've narrowed my choices some thanks to your help, now i need some fishes that are super bright, now i want something as bright as neons, cardnals or bettas, those are all super bright, almost marine-like colorful fish, any others??
 
African Cichlids are very bright in color and range in color. But I'm not sure what kind of tankmates they would be good with. I've heard they can be pretty aggressive.

A couple weeks ago, we got in 10 small assorted African Cichlids, and 2 were dead and half eaten before I could float them in the stores holding tank. Range anywhere from pearl white, bright yellow and orange, to a deep blue. Again, very bright and colorful fish, but you'd need to research them quite a bit first.
 
Look up the profiles of most Malawi cichlids, they are bright and dont get too big for your tank. If you want just copy the ones in my sig and check the pics on google.
 
this is what i've got for a list, tell me what you think about compatability, etc.

-1 eel (peacock or fire)
-2 german blue rams
-1 pearl gourami
-1 pleco
-1 angelicus botia loach
-2 dwarf or neon dwarf gouramis
-1 electric yellow cichlid
-5 neon tetras

i would sell my 5 red-eyed tetras back to the pet store
 
i would not mix ALL of those species in that tank, although the electric yellow is somewhat peaceful COMPARED TO OTHER CICHLIDS. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think you would have to be absolutely sure that you only had one male gourami in that tank (best ratio Male1-Female3). Also, i think that rams get very agressive when they get older. Weed out the list to whatever works to your appeal and perameters.

I believe the Rams are of the more peaceful cichlids (except when breeding), but to be sure I'd look that up a little if I were you, do NOT get two dwarf gouramis (most sold in lfs are male) two male means 1 death (IME) the pleco be careful what you get some get massively huge and would quickly out grow the 37g. those would be the only I can comment on personally. either I've had them or I have researched them. The electric yellow I'm not sure of I know the yellow lab is peaceful I have one of them, but I'm not sure if it is the same just another name or if there is a separate fish called electric yellow (I'm thinking they are different). The blue rams should not be very agressive, although they do like softer water. This is in stark comparison to the yellow african cichlid which likes hard water. It should be fine as long as your water is not on either extreme and you are not planning to breed the rams.

As others have stated, you cannot have two male dwarf gouramis.

Also as others have stated you want a pleco that stays around 6-8" or less with that tank. Common plecos get HUGE.

You have too many bottom fish. The rams, the pleco, the eel and the loach are all going to hang out near the bottom.

Also, neons are tiny, I don't know anything about eels, but the electric yellows may be able to eat them at full size. I am not sure about this but it is worth checking on. They will get around 3-4".

I think I would drop some bottom dwellers and go for some mid-dwelling fish.
