Can a neon begin to lose color due to early stages of ich?? I just saw the one in question rub against a rock, but there are no typical white spots yet on any of the fish. Other than that, it is behaving as normal. I'm fearing that it is neon tetra disease, I've never had it before, but I did see some pictures online. The red stripe is paling, mostly between the tail fin and the rest of the body.
Not sure what to do?? I have a qt tank, but I just got it, and its not set up yet, so I imagine the fish would die due to the stress of cycling, but there are also 12 neons total in the tank and if it is NTD I want to get the fish out ASAP. Plus I know that it is pretty much 100% fatal...
Any ideas?
Thanks alot

Thanks, but its a constant thing. I think thats why I didn't notice at first, because they're all kind of pale when I first turn on the light in the morning. Now there are one or two that are pale on their red stripe. It's probably been this way for about a week I'm guessing...

I'm not sure what the lighting is, just the standard long fish light (?!?) and nothing else in the tank has changed. Its an established tank, some of the neons are new ( a few months old ), but some are over a year old (or at least I've had them for that long). The discoloration is definately a new problem and not due to lighting or anything. I wish it was that easy :( . By the way, its a 60 gallon tank, temp is around 76, the ph around 7-7.2, nitrite and amo. 0, not sure about nitrate, but it was really low last time I checked. I'm afraid it is NTD and just not sure where to go from here due to the problem with the QT tank not being set up and not wanting to infect the other neons if it is NTD!

I forgot to mention, I did have a very slight case of ich a couple of months ago, so I was hoping (well not hoping, but it would be better than NTD) that maybe the ich was coming back and the stress was causing a couple of fish to discolor slightly? At a loss :(

Anyone? I would still like suggestions if there is anything I can do!!
Thanks :)

Well, I found one dead today, and I think 2 more might be missing. How quickly does NTD spread among neons?? Also, are my other fish at risk??
Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated! It is a cycled tank, and some of the neons are over a year old, the newer ones probably 2-3 months...

From what i know about NTD it is 100% fatal and is contagious to other fish. Even if your Q tank is not yet fully setup, I would reccomend moving the tetras with the symptoms over to it just to prevent others from getting it. If it is NTD, they will most likely die and you should spare the rest of your fish the same demise, even if the Q tank might harm them.
