Any of you break out giggling while watching your shrimp?

Example: Was watching a bunch of ghost shrimp eat an algae wafer at my friends house
and was looking at one in the frenzy and his buddy ran into him. In an instant he shot to the other side of the tank. Watching that one shrimp shoot out from the pile was pretty funny!

:grinyes:

Yeah they are a lot of fun to watch. I own many different types so it is fun to watch the different species interact.

The most interesting was when my shrimps bend their back and use their legs to clean their backs. I haven't seen them molt yet; that will be a sight to behold.

There are many interesting behaviors exhibited by the various shrimp species. Filter feeders can produce a hypnotic effect as they open and close their fans. Macro's have distinct mating rituals, and can have territories that they defend. I particularly enjoy watching triops, particularly when they feed, and they're inexpensive.

Can you aware me on these? Are you talking about Mysid shrimp?

It is true that Mysid order crustaceans feed by filtering water, however tolawdjk is correct. I was referring to Atyopsis moluccensis (Bamboo/wood shrimp), and Atya gabonensis (Vampire/African Fan shrimp). The Atyopsis and Atya species of shrimp are exclusively benthic, as adults. Animals from the Mysid order are both benthic (bottom dweller) and pelagic (free swimming).
