New 10g build, First SW tank!

Not sure of the fauna yet, but i think I would rather have the rock on top for more visibility. Thanks. Cant wait to get my live rock today!

+1 to TabisFish. If you plan on any sand dwelling/burrowing animals you will want the rocks on the glass. If it's just a shallow bed you can twist the bottom rocks down into the sand and that should prevent a rock slide.

If your rock is being shipped you should have some die off and that should be enough to kick start your cycle. You can add a small uncooked shrimp if you want to move things along but likely not needed.

Phosphates are one of those things that really tends to build up in tanks if left unchecked. Yes your WC's will help to remove some but any that bind to the rocks, etc, will not be removed and it doesn't take much to start algae growth. You can certainly try without and if your water source is good, you feed the right foods (rinse frozen foods) and appropraite amounts and you stay on your water changes, you might be fine. Again, something like Chemipure Elite is a good all in one for smaller tanks. Chances are you will get the typical alage blooms after your tank is started so don't feel like you have to run out and buy a bunch of stuff to fix that. Just stay on WC's and get a good CUC for the intial blooms. The phosphate remover would help keep that down though.

The other thing I would do with each water change is use a small pump/PH or turkey baster to blow the crud out of the crevices in your rock and the siphon the water out.

Cool, ill be sure to get some GFO in the near future. But my LR came today! Way more them I thought. And I ordered 10 lbs of Fiji, and receive about 12 lbs.

Regretfully, I added the sand right before the rock showed up, not thinking, and now my tank is super cloudy and I cant see where I want to place the LR. Any way to clear it up faster? Add some filter floss? Thanks...

Yes run mechanical filter (floss/pads, etc) and change it often as will will clog up with slime and dust quickly. It will take a couple/three days to clear up good. If you have extra filters, use them :).

Congrats on the rock!

+1 nice scape for a 10-gallon tank. Nice and open.

Nice thanks guys. I'm very excited for this setup, more excited then my last few of my planted setup. I sure hope I don't fall off the freshwater wagon. Which is a big possibility at this point. I cant wait to get off work, just to go stare at it more, it looked really cleared up this morning. Ill have to bust out my better camera soon. Ive been using my Droid.

Hey guys, ran some tests today, and all three of my N levels are through the roof. I expected to slowly get this but not at the same time, and not in 1 day of adding an ammonia source (small piece of fish fillet). Is this normal for saltwater? Im going to do a water change today. But I was surprised by my readings, I compared them to pre mixed saltwater and the readings are correct.
