New 10g build, First SW tank!

Hey guys, ran some tests today, and all three of my N levels are through the roof. I expected to slowly get this but not at the same time, and not in 1 day of adding an ammonia source (small piece of fish fillet). Is this normal for saltwater? Im going to do a water change today. But I was surprised by my readings, I compared them to pre mixed saltwater and the readings are correct.
I wouldn't recommend a water change yet.. let the "through the roof" aspects of the water take their course and feed bacteria so it can multiply and be able to process all that nasty in the water. If you do a water change now you will be removing some of the "food" for the bacteria to be able to multiply (probably wouldn't cause any real harm doing a water change but I just think you would be wasting $ and water doing so right now). Just sit back, relax for a few weeks, and let the tank do its thing all on its own. It is the first and probably the hardest lesson to learn in saltwater... patience.

Got my lights today! I think I have a final product for now, just need to start researching fauna. Was thinking about getting 1 or 2 False Percula Clownfish. Any thoughts on that. Most places I've researched says these type are small enough to be in a 10 gallon. But I do not like to overstock.
Had to move the rock around a little to get a more sturdy structure.

Sorry about the pics, I cannot get my better cameras SD card to work.

Looks like some dead sea life there

Even though clowns don't swim (more of a constant wiggle) too much I'm thinking a 10 gallon is pushing it for even a single clown. That tank would be great for small goby/pistol combo, a small blenny like a tailspot and/or maybe a pair of blue neon gobies.

What kind of lights did you go with?

2x 18W T5HO 10k and antic.

Its the Odyssea brand, which I know isn't the best. But Ive had good luck with them before on planted tanks. How long should I keep the lights on?

Any Idea's on corals. I'm wanting a Hammer, but I don't think I can support it. Thinking Softies.

I like the Goby/Shrimp combo. That was actually my first thought, but everywhere I read they needed larger tanks, except a few places. Is there a particular species to go with on this size of tank? Did you mean I could add a Benny too with this combo, or a Benny by its self?

Thanks for the suggestions!

Looks like a nice setup so far

I've always wanted to do a 10g nano reef

Thanks!

Some options:

No idea whay LA has the yasha listed for a 30 gallon. Have never seen one larger than 2". I see no reason why you could not have one in your tank. As for the pistol look into the candy cane/candy stripe/red stripe/red banded (whatever they're calling them these days :)). These stay much smaller. Tiger is another option but they get a little bigger.

Firefish are a nice option, they always look good. Pretty shy though, so you may not see much of them.

Yasha's I have seen listed as ok for tanks as small at 2.5G. 30G seems quite excessive for that goby. They are probably the most expensive of the "common" gobies though, and they are difficult to get established. You can get a yellow watchman goby and tiger pistol shrimp pair for probably 1/2 of what a yasha goby cost by itself. I agree about the clowns.. 1 clown is pushing it in a 10G, 2 clowns is too much. I don't think I would get a blenny and a goby in a 10G.. both types of fish just sit around most of the time. With limited space/options and bioload to think about I would get a goby and something else that swims to give a little variety and movement to the tank. Maybe 2 cardinals of some type as swimming fish, even though they don't really swim much, at least they stay in the water column and not just sit on the sand/rocks most of the day like gobies and blennies do.
