New 10G tank planted and running

Oscar,

The Dwarf Gourami issue stems, I think, from the fact that they are hopped up on hormones before they're shipped to LFSs to promote beautiful color right from the getgo. That, and a lot of inbreeding has caused for terrible unhardy fish.

I've tried to keep dwarf gouramis on three seperate occassions from three different LFSs, and each time they last only 2 months and died of the same thing: unexplained stomach bloat. I tried everything all three times to heal them: peas, jungle parasite meds, anything I could think of/research for stomach bloat. Right now, the fish is un-keepable.

Thanks, that great advice. What a shame. That's like 'forcing' plants into bloom to sell them...outrageous.

I agree about the dwarf gouramis. For some reason or the reasons already stated the dwarfs just do not last in home aquaria for very long. They are not a hardy fish. Most times the fish appear to be normal and then just out of the blue they turn up dead. It is a hard one to figure out.

That's really too bad. They've long been among my favorite fish.

More photos of kitchen tank with new arrivals

Sunday night. Both tanks had a water change. Trimmed back plants and threw some hornwort out of the living room tank into the kitchen tank, to help with the extra bioload of the 6 Harlequin Rasboras I just added to that tank.

Both tanks nicely cycled and growing well. New inmates of the kitchen tank settled into the thick planting scheme very well, and are now bolder, showing off in mid water. Now I have the 4 dwarf sunset platies in the top level, the rasboras mid water and the 4 albino dwarf corys anywhere they want to be - mainly nuzzling through the sand looking for titbits of food.

Am attaching the usual updated images taken tonight.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

I FLIPPIN' WELL TOLD MY WIFE WE SHOULDN'T GET PLATYS :angryfire:
Now I have platy babies everywhere in the kitchen 10g. The little varmints are fast as hell so the parents can't even eat them all...durn, now I'll have to buy some piranha.

When I told my wife the bad news, she said 'Cool.' What can you do, eh?:headshake2:

Your cories are looking really good!
