Well I picked them up tonight. He brought them in a bucket of his tank water with them in the shells. So we swapped them into a bucket I brought. When I got them home, I took 3 samples of his water for tests, and then added some of my tank water to his over a 30 minute period until it was about doubled. At that point I added the shells with fish into my tank because I couldn't maintain the water temp in the bucket(my basement is a constant 65) and I didn't want there to be a big difference. When I tested his water, the pH was similar to mine, at or just above 8. What was an eye opener was the KH & GH. Mine are about 80 & 180ppm respectively. When I tested his KH, I got to 40 drops(400ppm), and it still hadn't changed color! The GH was also that high as well, 21 drops/420ppm. Is that excessive? I've never heard of it being that high, or is mine too low?
