Different root tabs maybe? I've read both great and bad reviews for api root tabs. I haven't read a bad review for rootmedic root tabs though, and they did wonders for my amazon sword that was in sand. How's your lighting again and are you using liquid or any type of co2? As for stocking, I definitely agree with Roy saying the angelfish will snack on your ghost shrimp as they are well known shrimp and small fish eaters. I personally wouldn't have angelfish in a 29 gallon, it just seems far too short and small for them. I originally had a single ~3" angel in a 29, but realized it was too cramped for her, esp when she'd reach an adult size of ~6" and moved her to my more suitable 55 gallon. Just something to think about.
