New 30gal setup

Yes, upping your hermit population will be a help towards removing the normal hair algae...and if its long hair, help along buy pulling it our by hand...but ensure you just let it float off around the tank...

You may want to research some nitrate removal media to get the nitrate below 20ppm.....however, its not going to hurt fish at all....Documented evidence shows that fish can live happily in nitrates around 40ppm....Inverts and corals are the ones which are more succeptable to nitrates...

Hope this helps...

Niko

P.S.....sorry Grins..could not resist it....

Well, I didn't make it to the LFS I was going to go to, but I did end up at another local store. The good news is I didn't buy any fish. I'm just afraid that my tank isn't ready yet and I don't want to kill a poor fishy because I'm impatient.

However, I did come home with another astrea snail, a nacissarius snail and these two fellas. I was assured that I shouldn't have any problems with them in my tank. Wish me luck.

Featherduster (I named it FiFi. Just looks french to me for some reason.)

Emerald Crab...ain't he cute?

That little crab feller is quite the algae eater. He puts my snails and hermit crabs to shame.

A while back I asked about something growing in my tank that looked like a small leaf. I finally got a good picture of it. Any ideas on what it is?

Look in the center of the picture. This isn't the only one. There are a bunch of them popping up all over this one particular rock.

I have also had some other stuff pop up in the last couple days. They look like tiny white dots. On closer inspection, they are semi-circular. They literally show up overnight practically. When I turned the lights on tonight I also found that my tank was overcome with tiny white bugs. They are jumpy and they were all over the glass and rocks. I don't have a picture of the little white bugs, but here is a picture of the little white dots that showed up on the rock.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Nice crab!

Thanks for the compliments. I could watch my little crab for hours and the feather duster is simply beautiful to stare at. Who would think a worm could be so graceful and calming.

So the copepods are good. YEAH!! What about those little white dots on the rock. I'm sure they aren't copepods cause they are much bigger. Are they something I need to worry about?
