It totally depends on what kind of algae you are having. How long has your tank been set up? What kind of algae is it?

If you have a new tank that is just cycling, it is probably a diatom bloom and that will clear up all by itself.

Give a some more information and we'll help you out.

Thanks for the compliment. I love my featherduster and would like to get another, but this time I want a Hawaiian version. I love the dark colors on the feathers. Grins has a beautiful one that she should give me.

Speaking of adding things to the tank, when should you start using a QT tank. I have not quarantined anything in my tank so far cause I was just adding snails, a few crabs and a featherduster. I thought that the QT was used primarily for fish, but I have read that some people use their QT tank for everything. Should corals, anemones and everything be quarantined?

Are you sure it had actually died and not just molted? The same sorta thing happened to me the first time my crabs molted. I woke up one morning to see all sorts of red limbs all over my sand bed and I was quite distraught at the site of my first fishy loss! I didn't have the time to do anything that morning so I went off to work and when I came back, ALL my crabs were alive and well!!

You might want to give it a few days to see if you can spot the crab/shell.

Agree with the molt Tiki.. I had a couple molt within a day of each other.. I was thinking they were dropping like flies at first until I pulled the molt out and didn't find any "stuff" in the exoskeleton.
 
Great news!! The hermit lives! I guess it was a molt after all. He is in teh same shell (which explains the reason it was missing) and happily munching on algae.

I went out tonight and bought my first read light headgear so I can look in the sand tonight to see if I can figure out what is making all the sand shifts around the rock. I've decided it isn't all current making the ripples. I have to admit that I'm a bit freaked about seeing something emerge from the sand, but inquiring mind want to know.

On another note, I got to meet Grins today at a local SW Club meeting. It is great when you can put a face to a name.
 
I think if we are all brave...we should start a thread with our picture in it so everyone can put a face to a name. Grins...you always start great threads :-)
