New 320 Gallon Thread!!!

WOW!!!

OMG $440 for everything?:jaw: Geez I spent over $600 for my 36g tank, stand and supplies. Congrats on a great deal! Please post pics of your progress.:grinyes:

i would like a bunch of small fish, but i already have an O.. i got him from a LFS and hes my responsibility now. i like him too much to bring him back and have him potentially live his life in too small of a tank, so im gonna give him a big, comfy house
: )
thanks platy.. yeah it was a crazy deal. just look around, there are people out there who get the big tanks and then give up and feel like they just need to sell them.
ill keep you guys updated.
im on MFK asking questions about what pumps or powerheads to use for the return for the sump and asking if they reccommend any heater brands n stuff.. 80 views and only 2 responses just asking for pics n if its really a 320(someone said it looks smaller).. a couple of people in a different thread helped, but only 2. MFK isnt friendly or something, idk what the deal is over there but i feel like im gonna need to find another big fish/tank forum to ask my questions soon since nobody wants to help me over there. its really kind of annoying, dont know why they wouldnt want to help someone out if they could.

on either tuesday or wednesday im going to get some wood for a temporary stand, just so the tank will be a couple of feet up and not on the floor.

easy... good luck on having anything in that tank the oscars can fit in their mouths.... they will find them and they will eat them. :)

Nice.. I'm chompin at the bit to see it set up.

my wife squashed my attempts as swapping out a 75 for a larger tank.

Nice, easy. I have some reddish gravel in my 150 that my oscar really stands out against, its made by Carib-sea and its a mixture of the Amazon and Redwood colors. Looks a lot like fluorite actually.

Its nice that you already have the sump. I'd look at something like a Mag 10 for a return pump, and three 300w Visitherm stealths for heaters. The good news is that quantity of water will hold a ton of heat energy so once its at temp, it shouldn't be too difficult to keep it there as long as the room temp is relatively close.

I really your ideas of a few oscars, but it does kind of clash with your other plans. First, oscars really don't like to let plants stay planted. Also, what jdub said, any small schoolers will be lunch in a hurry. I used silver dollars for dithers in my cichlid tank, which work well, but again will destroy any green in the tank.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing it set up..I'm jealous. Although I'd end up doing a big FOWLR setup for my puffer, a bunch of damsels and a huge mantis shrimp :D. And if you need some large driftwood, I might be able to help out, I've gotten some nice stuff for my tanks and jdub's in the woods and streams around here. And its free!

true sploke.. ive seen O tanks with plants here and there before. when i put some amazon swords in my 55, he uprooted them though.. it was so weird to see how focused he was on the plants right when i put them in there, like he thought they were going to attack or play some tricks on him or something...like he was trying to 'figure them out'. maybe when they aren't right in front of his face all the time, hell ignore them.. for a bit atleast... maybe? :) lol
ill most likely take you up on that DW offer... im going to check out some ponds and stuff around here first and see if there's anything

Wow, what a tank.
Can't wait to see some pics of it full :)
I cant wait to get it full!

Well, don't feel like going out tonight so I'm going to Home Depot in a bit to get the wood for the stand. After that I'm gonna check out some DIY stand building threads on here and on MFK
I'll start building it tomorrow, and I'll keep you guys posted with pics.
Still working on my sump plan, with the PVC and all that. It's a bit intimidating, since I've never set up a sump before... but I'll figure it out

Man that would make a killer African Rift lake tank!!!! with lots of rocks and hiding places!!

"wife didnt share his enthusiasm"
What if your girlfriend thinks fish are pretty, she just has no understanding of them... except maybe on a low level.

And the driftwood sounds kind of nice. OMG a divers head animated airstone ornament thing would look soooo coool ! ! ! jk. I would get some smooth rocks and put them with the drift wood for your smaller 0fish to hide in ... I want a tank like this. Before I got into fish, my step dad (which he is no longer) sold a 150, but it had scratches (dumb person watching an acrylic tank - they thought they would be helpful and clean it. . .) and one probably close to what ou are talking about, except pre-drilled and everything. He also got rid of a 55 gal rubber trash can full of rock... I am sad now

That thing's gonna swallow $400 in good plant soil like it's nothing.
